I am new to this board so may I start by saying Hi, and may I thank the owners for having me.
Heres my question. I was working out a couple of weeks ago and twisted my left elbow quite badly. I have been able to continue to work out qiute normaly untill it came to doing the side lateral raizes I could no lift with the arm out straight so what I did was I held the arm bent as though doing a curl I and placed the dumbell in the crease of my elbow and then by keeping the arm bent I was still able to achieve the coerrect movement but I had bypassed the forearm and there fore stress on my elbow and I was able to use a heavier dumbell the result was after a set of ten reps I had achieved a much more intenceive burn it felt like a much better quality workout for my shoulders and traps. What I want to know is am I still hitting the required muscles doing it like this.

Yes, you are hitting the shoulders, and as you said, bypasing the forearm/elbows. This is similar to the machine where the pads rest on your upper arms and you push up against them. Sounds awkward, though, but if it works for you....
