I started working out with a buddy of mine about a week ago, and he has different workout strategies than I do. For example, using dumbells, I could put up 75's on my shoulders about 8 times. However, working out with my friend, what we now do is use lesser weight, 40's, and bring the dumbells down super-slow (count to 6 each time we bring the dumbells down for a rep). Our reps go something like 15,10,10,8. I feel my muscles the next day when I flex using both methods. Just wondering, is one way better than the other? Thanks.

Both are different types of training, which is OK! Your method is geared more toward strength gains, while your buddy is using something similar to Hypertrophy training, but it seems as though he may be doing too many sets/reps for it.

It's really up to you which workout you prefer to use. You can always go with one now and switch em up after about 6 weeks, since that's the point muscle fibers begin to adapt to the stress we put on them.

Good luck!
