ok I'm not bulemic or anything, but I'm not really sure if this would be an eating disorder or not. I have a habit of chewing junk food, and then just spitting it out. I just get the taste of that junk food and then spit it right out. It never gets into my stomach or anything. Well maybe a little does, but I think I need to stop doing this. Has anybody else ever had this problem? Thanks for posting.

We all know that it can't be good, yet we still do it. Well at least I'm not the only one that does is. I don't feel totally weird now. I thought I was the only one in the world that did that. I think in a long term effect it will probably just make us want to stop eating healthy and just binge eat on anything we see. I'm trying to stop doing it and I would recommend that you 2 do as well.

This was taken from the Student Health page of the University of Oxford (http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/shw/food.shtml)
Non-specified eating disorders can affect many people and may not be as clear cut as the above definitions suggest. Some people may have differing patterns of eating disorder and behaviours, such as starving and vomiting, being "anorexic" although still menstruating or their current weight being normal. Others may chew food and then spit it out before swallowing. All people suffering from any kind of serious eating disorder can become socially isolated because of the compulsive nature of the rituals surrounding food, which may keep them from enjoying normal social activities, or may leave them with little time to do anything else. It is also probably true that all people suffering from serious eating disorders feel an underlying sense of shame and self hatred. P.S. Although I can't find the specific name for the activity that you all are describing it is generally considered a non-specific eating disorder. More importantly and perhaps scary is that it is also commonly performed as one of the rituals of the more drastic eating disorders (bulimia and anorexia). In either situation, if you find that you are doing this with any regularity, it may be helpful to seek the help of a professional. Daniel Love |

this is not the thread to ask this question in. the subject matter at hand is quite serious, and what you have asked is completely irrelevant. please post in the appropriate forum. -------------- if you get me started on quentin tarantino films, chances are you won't be able to shut me up. excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

My name is Daniel, as evident above, and I didn't get to see your post. However, I do feel the desire to tell you that Gizzards are an organ only present in birds (and is already part of the digestive tract). I am sorry to inform you of that, otherwise I would love to invite you to Oregon to do your deed.
You have a nice day. Daniel |

Ignore everything dated 2/9/05 or greater. Some jerk was making immature comments and was deleted. Unfortunately, it has left the rest of us looking like we are attacking you. Hopefully a moderator will clean it up a little bit.

i do that too. I bought a whole box of valentines day chocolate bit into each piece and spit them out....Then i was afraid the sugar from what did get absorbed into my saliva and swallowed would be like 1000 calories so I went and hopped on the treadmill for an hour.-------------- \"There are no obstacles, only challenges...\"--from the movie Groove. |

Okay.
All of you who are on the topic of the original post. You are bordering on serious eating disorders. Iwantmybodyback is a little farther along, it sounds like. Please seek help from a professional familiar with eating disorders. Next, get on a sensible eating plan. Chocolates can be included as an occasional splurge when you have a healthy food plan and regular exercise. Running on the treadmill for an hour won't accomplish much more than maybe loss of muscle tissue, if you are starving yourself, which in turn will lowwr your metabolism and sabotage your weight loss efforts. I do the same thing, i have for quite some time now, i especially do it with pizza, burgers, chocolate, starburst and other candy. i just want the taste in my mouth. i never really thought of it as an "eating disorder" though. i still eat (and swallow) healthy foods and drink protien shakes, but when i get my sweet tooth, i dont want the extra calories.
