Hi folks. I am 6' tall and about 163 lbs. Anyways, I am thin, however have a pooch and some love handles. I would like to get into better shape, get them love handles off and get a nice chest. I'm not looking to be Mr. Universe. 2 issues, though: I am a strict vegetarian (no fish or chicken either) and will always be - no exceptions, and secondly, which is bad, I am trying to stop smoking! ARRGH! Anyways, there is a local place that has a good membership program with no contracts and can watch my kids for $25 a month. I've seen so many exercise programs online, but, I want to start slow and not try to hurt my back. Any suggestions, folks? Thanks!

Well, first off, welcome to FT! You'll find a lot of help here...

Fill out your profile so we know a bit more about you, then select a fitness plan from this site to get going...

Since you are a vegetarian, you'll need to find protien from other sources... cottage cheese is a good one...

Do some research on this site too... a ton of info!

Welcome! Try some walks with the kids, go to the park, etc., kids are great for exercise and love to walk, stroller, etc. Pick a place at least a mile away and hike it with them, they love that stuff! When my kids were younger I remember there was a McDonald's playland a bit over a mile away and I would take them there for ice cream - walking one and stroller'ing the other at a good clip, they loved it and we did it three times a week, then we found this beautiful park another 1/2 mile away and we would go there and walk around it picking up baby toads and playing, by the end of our walks we would put in over 2 miles! They slept great and mom got in her exercise! After you get used to some walking, go for the gym if you like, that way you can start slow and work your way up!
