Use whey for post workout. Use the others for regular protein supplementation.

Whey protein absorbs faster for recovery from the workout. Other proteins work fine when fast absorption doesn't matter as much.

Charlie - We can use the whey for the other times also, right? It sounded like you were saying to only use the whey for post-workout.

Jonathan, I use whey for post workout. From what I've seen here in posts by BB1 and others who appear to know, whey is absorbed too fast to be of as much benefit as other sources at non workout times.
The blended supplements usually have a small % of whey but use other proteins for different times of day. Most of the morning formulas seem to use milk or egg sources. Casein seems to be the night choice. Casein will congeal in the stomach and release very slowly overnite. Thats why it's popular for nighttime.
Supplements get expensive. I have stopped buying an AM or PM specific supplement. I make morning shakes with eggwhites, whole eggs, oatmeal, milk, a tad of whey and cocoa. It's as cheap as a store bought formula plus its mostly whole food which is always better.
I eat cottage cheese at night with some kind of nuts thrown in. Of coarse the occasional oreo or cupcake I have to have may offset some of the benefits but i'm not looking to compete. I just want to remain a strong fit geezer and hold down geriatric medical costs.
