Hi.
I would like to join the ymca to lose weight (I weigh 280) and gain muscle. I honestly don't think I would have any problems with gaining strength when I go, but there is something holding me back from joining.
I have really bad body acne. I know no one will see any on my torso, but I have them on my arms from upper forearms on up. They're really noticible, expescially when I start getting hot or sweaty, because then they just grow redder. I've wanted to join since the beginning of the year, but these things on my arms are gonna be visible when I start training. And it's hugely embarrassing and disgusting.
My question is if any of you's, when at the gym, regularly see people with imperfect skin. And if you do, do you care? Does it disgust you? What about the other people in there. Are they disgusted and making gross faces?
I'd really like to join so that I can finally get rid of my "excess stuff" (I think fat is a harsh word), but you have no idea how embarrassing having pimples on your arms are. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Absolutely not...the only people that disgust me in the gym are those that are there to socialize.

Def, remember this: Your decision to better yourself is all about you...not others or what they think. I know what is like to be overweight and self concious, but do not let that deter you from getting healthy and trying to achieve a better appearance.

And, consider the fact that your weight affects your hormones...your hormones affect acne...stands to reason that the more weight you loose and the healthier you become...the more your acne will improve.

So, no more nonsense with what others think, ok? Get you mess ready and go sign up today!

Keep us posted on how you're getting on,

Julienne

Can anyone suggest what exercises will target the hips- especially the saddle bags and hips? IS the bike something that can solve this problem? Thanks!

diet, cardio, diet, cardio, diet.

No spot reducing - fat comes off whichever parts of the body it desires to leave first.

Good luck.

def999 - I can honestly say that in 4 years, I have never noticed anyone's skin in the gym. Acne is one of these things that you notice an awful lot more yourself than anyone else does.

So go join that gym!
