why does hiit continue to burn calories even after???? i got into an arguement with my friend and i need to know what happens when u do hiit that is better then jogging lets say for 20 minutes????????????????
Intervals will only build your endurance and makes the heart rate higher for the length of the interval. It is your metabolism that will speed up from the overall cardio session, and that is what burns your calories after. They will both burn calories after. It is just more calories during the session with the HIIT..

Actually, HIIT has as strong an anerobic component to it as it does an aerobic component. This in fact is why more calories are burnt and metabolic rate is raised to a higher level post cardio than regular cardio. Some HIIT sessions if done correctly can rival a decent leg workout for instance. Because of the high intensity of the short durations, oxygen plays a very small role in energy production. Increasing the resistance higher and higher with each interval can pump as much blood into the legs as some weight bearing exercises. this is where it gets interesting...while just an aerobic exercise, you quite possibly burn a higher % of calories from fat, but anerobic exercise burns a higher % of calories from sugars(glucose), so in the end this ends up burning more fat
