Hi,
I'm a 27 year old 315 pounds 6'0" Male who is tired of being overweight. I'm ready to do someting about it for real now. I need someone to help me. I have an exercise bike, I just bought a 310 lb olympic weight set and am fixing to buy a gold's gym x5 weight bench. Can somebody please tell me what to eat, model a weight lifting schedule for me (if that's what I should do). And tell me if riding a bike for 30 mins is good or should I walk, or what. Please help me. I'm tired of being fat, I just had a kid and I want to be able to do thing with him as he grows up. Thanks a lot -Chris |

We'll be in here to help you as well. Good luck and remember to believe in yourself! -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. www.nme-pro.com |

Welcome to freetrainers Chris. Congratulations for wanting to change your lifestyle. Fill out your profie and you will be able to get more help from other members. First off start by doing 5 min of the bike (am) and resistance training with a 10 min walk in the PM.
Base your nutrition intake at 3700-4000 cal per day and eat small meals 5x a day. If you need more help email me here. Good luck. -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

I am riding my exercise bike 30 mins which tells me I'm burning about 520 calories. I do this 3-5 times a week (mostly in the afternoon, it's hard to get up in the morning). I only take in about 2000 calories max. I try to eat several meals a day to keep up my metabolism. I also have a full-body workout schedule 3 times a week. Since September 21 I have went from 315 lbs to 302. Is this a normal weight loss rate? I feel like I should be losing more?!?! What's more important to keep track of Fat grams or Calories?

calories in general you want to watch.....however to much of anything is bad.
Body weight does not mean anything......instead look at waist size, diameter of arms, hips stuff like that. mybodycomp.com i think would help you. I weigh 260+ lbs overweight concidering i'm only about 6'-1' but i'm more lean now, than when I was at 280 with a 48in waist. Even though i'm only 20lbs away from my old "fat" weight. -------------- ....I'm probably in my underwear typing this......or maybe not! |

The bike is an excellent way to lose weight. In the last 26 months I've lost 220 lbs by biking & counting calories. I started out riding an exersize bike and then switched to a road bike. I went from huffing & puffing after one flight of stairs to riding a century (100 miles) in 5 hours flat recently. At 48, I'm in better shape now then I was in my twenties. Just remember that you didn't gain the weight overnight & you can't expect to lose the weight overnight. Keep up the good work, I'm proof that it can be done.-------------- Formally old, fat, & ugly - Now I'm just old & ugly |

You are doing great by adding exercise to your daily weekly routine. Some quick tips: First off, please check your daily calorie requirement, if you are not eating ENOUGH, your body will react by using muscle to munch on instead of the fat you need to burn. I cannot stress enough the roller coaster pattern you will set yourself up for if you do not meet your calorie/energy needs. After approximately 2 weeks if you do not see a loss, you can adjust them by approx. 200 calories, no less and try again.
Secondly, it takes 3500 to make a pound of fat and that to burn it, so a 1-2 pound loss is what is considered "normal", just remember how long it took to put it on, when you consider that, taking it off will still come quicker for you even though to do it healthy seems to take forever, it is not in comparison to how long it takes us to put it on. Next, add some weights, any kind of weights, even if it is cans of soup to lift, add a program (FT has a great one) that involves weight lifting as by building muscle you allow more calories to burn - even while just sitting there! More muscle - more loss!! LASTLY - DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!! The results will come if you stick with it - period, there is no doubt about it and in the meantime you are getting healthier by the minute! GO GO and KEEP GOING, the only thing that can stop you from reaching your goals is YOU!! GOOD LUCK! ============ Quoting from MrCalibrator: I am riding my exercise bike 30 mins which tells me I'm burning about 520 calories. Ohhhh and sorry, to answer your question, BOTH! EVERYTHING! I believe at the start it is good to write down your carbs, your fat, your calorie, your protein, your everything consumption - it can be a pain, but it gives you an excellent idea where you need improvements. Sometimes we think we are doing great and writing it down can show us we aren't doing as great as we thought.
I'm not sure, but I think your full body workout may mean you are doing weight lifting?? Yes, your weight loss is what I would consider "healthy" weight loss. Oh, and throw in a off the wall day to confuse your metabolism now and then, so it doesn't get used to your calorie range and refuse to budge, I hear it helps many. ============ Quoting from MrCalibrator: I am riding my exercise bike 30 mins which tells me I'm burning about 520 calories. Hi everyone. I just joined this site about 30 minutes ago. I, like many others here, am looking to tone my body and lose a large amount of weight. I'm 23 years old and I weigh approx. 300-320 lbs. I've been reading through these posts and I love that you are all so supportive. I also plan to take some of the advice you all have given about recording proteins, carbs, etc. Also, today is the first day I've really done any type of workout in a while. I did some of the exercises recommended after filling out my profle and I feel really good. I was not able to do as many reps as it said but it's a start. I hope this is the right place to post this :)

here is just some personal advice, first junkfood is something u dont wanna touch at all, i have not gain much weights(and i am trying so hard to)ever since i quit junkfood, that includes chips, fastfood, sodas, and stuffs like that.
Second is motivation, try to think of the result instead of the process. and feel the joy as u see the sweats dripping as u exercise, thats what i do :p cuz i feel my body wastes are going away along with my sweat. |
