Before I go out for pizza or a party or wherever the tempation is, I will have a protein shake or some other healthy snack. I have found this has really cut back on my overeating.

I agree, eat before you go.
Regular, healthy meals will reduce the temptation to overindulge.
I find chewing gum helps too - you can't eat cake, chips, sweets etc if you're already chewing gum.

It actually doesn't even matter for me if I eat before. I will just eat again. So, this may sound a little weird, but sometimes I picture mold growing on the food or I imagine the person making it is dirty and there is cat hair in it. Lot's of cat hair.

i think the best visualization that would work is to actually think that this little piece of food you're eating would pack on your body two-fold. When food gets digested, especially those in hi card and hi in fat, your body breaks it down, all those unnecessary carbs and fat will be turned into extra fat cells. and since fat cells don't really disappear, they just get smaller. and guess what, your body will never stop making extra fat cells for storage.

the more you have, the more difficult it is in losing it, and if you do lose it, the tendencies of you getting it back once you've stopped being healthy is also high.

so know how your body is working and what that food is doing to you. Knowing and understanding what lies beneath what you're doing will MAKE you stop.

My understanding of this is that you make fat cells while you are growing during your youth, and then once you have stopped growing, you don't make more fat cells. They just increase of decrease in size. So it is more of a developmental thing?

Am I incorrect?

Keep a drink in your hand..... and go for the low calorie ones; mineral water, tomato juice or even a glass of champagne!
And keep TALKING!

theres plenty to read above so i'll just do snippets from my brain- drink extra water, eat oats or muesli for breakfast, plan small meals at 6+ per day. exercise before party or eating as exercise reduces appetite. simple carbs induce craving- don't eat them at all for a while to get control... if you eat one cake you want another so don't eat the first one eh!

Assimmer gave me advice long time back to use a shock tactic against your body to kick start a new game play. I'll explain- cut out all carbs for one to 2 weeks(or maximum 20g a day)... Atkins it is not. We are talking shocking your body into change and learning appetite control etc... Now you must have a good wholesome shopping list ready to then attack a good plan after the 2 weeks- or slowly add 20grams of carb a day till you get to i dunno say 160 grams then wait a week and see if you maintain or put weight on- if stable add 20 g a day again- are you in better control of your appetite? if no wait 8 weeks or so and do it again! Or do a different shock, cut out all red meat and breads, potatoes and carrots for a week.

But always get back to a normal balanced menu.

Whoa... I think I've gotten a whole lotta facts out of this... seriously thank you to all.
Recently I've been invited to another party, all that excercise and water really helped... I didn't even touch a piece of cake...

Thank YOU ALL for the advice..
