Usually when I do dumbell presses I lower the weights to where my elbow will form up almost a 90 deg angle then press back up.. but looking at the pictures it seems that adrian lets his elbows go a little lower than his shoulders and he holds his forearms and the dumbells closer to his head... is that right?...

It's just a question about the total range of the movement.
Don't worrying about lowering your elbows a little lower than your shoulders, it will just make the exercise harder (and when performed controlled and steady then no danger for your shoulders either).

true,

listen to your body, if you can come all the way down, then that is the preferred range of motion.

I usually let my elbows drop a little also, and feel that stretch on my pecs. It does make the exercise a little harder so I usually don't go too heavy.
