I was just wondering if you should take anything after doing cardio for 20-30 min. and how badly are glycogen storages depleated as much as on a chest or leg day? i'm now just going to start doing cardio, I've been lifting for the past year and have been eating heavy and lifting heavy without any cardio, the only place i seem to have fat is in the stomach as usual. My arms and shoulders and chest are pretty well defined, I would just like to loose i little body fat not much just to bring out my muscles more. My new plan is weights in the am cardio in the pm plus cardio on my 2 off days I'm going to keep the same diet and calorie intake and hope the extra exercise will burn some of the fat off.

Well, normally cbas1 your advice would be ok, but if doing cardio at night, unless you have a raging metabolism, I would not opt for the carbs. Actually it is very hard to deplete glycogen stores, trust me, at contest time the last week you have to work extremely hard to accomplish this with very minimal carb intake. After cardio, the assumption is you are doing it for fat burning of course as you state, wait 30 minutes and let glucagen do its thing for a while, then have a protein/fats/fiber meal as this will insure no insulin response, and will keep lypolysis achieved from your cardio session intact. I would again opt to have a small meal consisting of lean protein, fats and fiber pre bed. It is a proven fact that the body likes to use fat while muscle is resting, so the gain is twofold. Then in the morning have your oats, protein source(very low glycemic meal) to keep the body in fat burning mode. If this is your pre workout meal, this too is fine.

Ok sounds good and thanks for the good advice once again guys. Just one more question, on my days off i will be doing cardio in the morning about and 1hr. to an 1hr1/2 after breakfast oats and cottage cheese. Afterwards i should wait 30 min. then eat the same thing? or would ground beef with some baked beans do the trick since it will be lunch time? Would it be a bad idea to drink a protein shake right after.

One more question for you bb1 if i keep cardio to 3 days a week will i still be able to cut back body fat while putting muscle on or will i be maintaining muscle and shedding fat. I know thnat when you want to put muscle on you have to eat more than you expend and have to face the fact of putting on a little fat, but will cardio 3 days a week keep the fat off while adding the muscle?

Ground beef and beans would be an excellent choice after cardio in the morning.

As far as your question on 3 days of cardio if you will be putting on muscle or not, I cannot answer that for you. You will have to be the judge here. Much depends on your body type, metabolic rate, etc. I would play it by "ear", in other words if it works for you fine, if not, you need to adjust. You will have to "learn" your body.

And CBAS1, you are not giving out bad information. No 2 people are the same, and what you say will work also. It may just come down to a bit quicker or slower in happening. Bottom line is if you do healthy things, you will gain in the areas you want, but there are a few things you can do to tweak your efforts to get more results a bit faster. (we all want quick results!!)
