In the last couple of weeks I have been struggling to fall asleep. It started off being with me only laying in bed for about half an hour, but it progressivly got worse each night.
Now I lay awake in bed for hours, unable to fall alseep. The later it gets, the harder it becomes for me to sleep because I begin worrying about how hard the next day will be. I lie in bed and my mind won't shut off. I think about the sounds I hear, stuff I did that day, and how I am breathing (which is by FAR that worse). I try to relax my body, but I am unable to get comfortable. I honestly don't know why I am doing this, but I can't keep it up. It's a around 1:15 am and I need to be up in at 6am. I know I am not falling asleep anytime soon at this point so I have given up. My life isn't stressful, my eatting habits haven't changed at all. This came on out of know where. It's only been two weeks and I already feel it affecting my performance at work, at the gym, and in life in general. I really could use some advice. |

Have you tried self-hypnosis? If you're susceptible it can be really beneficial. You can download a free audio (mp3) specifically for insomnia at http://www.free-hypnosis-recordings.com It's just a ten minute recording. There's another for relaxation (lasts about 30 mins), which I think is even better.
Hope this helps. If you decide to try it, let me know what you think! |

I usually try to read - that seems to work in about 1/2 hour.

I have never tried self hypnosis, but I don't see that working on me. At this point in time I am willing to try anything.
I tried reading as well last night. I don't think I even fell alseep but rather passed out from being exhausted. My body is tired, but my brain doesn't seem to realize this. I think I am running on around 2 or 3 hours of broken sleep right now. Its going to be a long day. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Good grief. Take a shot of Jack Daniels and don't worry about it. When you get tired enough, you'll sleep. -------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

Try ZMA....it is wonderful stuff. Will not induce sleep, but will enhance the sleep you get immensely. I would never ever be without it. I am a chronic insomniac from way back, and I thank the day I found ZMA.
Melatonin is also good, not the same thing, should actually induce sleep, but be careful with it. Prolonged useage can induce your normal output of it to get even worse. Take Melatonin in a dark room, as it is in the dark that your natural melatonin production is secreted. 3 gr. is the normal doseage. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

yeah i have to agree with anni drinking will knock you out but eventually leads to problems making the insomnia worse. I also get chronic insomnia i find valerian root which is available at your local chemist can help, also just exercising till i drop sometimes works. good luck mate i know how bad it is but it generally will pass after a few weeks at most and return every couple of weeks i find. might also want to look at stress in your life and such

I think I am going to avoid the use of alcohol for getting to sleep.
As for waiting until I am tired enough: Thats not the problem at all. I am exhausted when I go to bed, I just can't make my mind stop racing. It seems to be getting better in the last couple of days, so hopefully it is just a phase. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Valerian root is an excellent herb for sleep aid. It is very cheap, and can be found at any health food store in capsules or even in tea. I drank the tea for a long time, it is not the most pleasant tasting, but when you want to go to sleep bad enough.....

I use valerian root for this ailment and swear by it as far as my results. I take it in the capsules - as even with the capsules the stench is very uninviting, but don't let it fool you, I take them just prior to bed, I get a book or a magazine and within 15-20 minutes I have dropped whichever of them on my husband's already sleeping head!
For years I had insomnia and when I run out of the valerian, it is still there waiting to keep me awake. My problem was as yours, too much stuff screaming at me, I am always lying there thinking about bills or kids or the snotty neighbors or the dogs bark once as I'm just finally dropping off and jolt me awake. Valerian has been my salvation to insomnia. I did find when I started working out daily again that if I was out of valerian I didn't stay awake as long as I used to. Good luck to you! I have suffered from this since a child - I used to be so jealous of my sister, whose bed was across from mine and would fall asleep when her head hit the pillow that I would wake her in a feigned panic after an hour and tell her it was time to go to school, I would watch her get dressed in our little uniforms and then laugh my arse off...I know - - demented, but man I hated being the last one to fall asleep in a 70 year old house!! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.
