Made ya look!

But seriously, my plan called for sissy squats the other day. Something I've never heard of and the name makes them sound easy. First set was challenging, second was much harder. By the fourth I could barely do them but did as much as I could. I was thinking "Wow! I'm clearly working a part of my quads I've been neglecting. Oh, Yeah!!!"

So now, two days later I still have trouble walking. I'm sure my co-workers think I'm high or something. I'm popping Advil as much as I can, and I'm wondering if that was such a smart move to make. Should I have stopped sooner? I'm also wondering if it's going to be like this every time I have a challenging workout. I'm assuming/hoping that as I get every single muscle used to working that they'll recover faster.

I've got no beef with "No pain, No gain" but I wouldn't mind a little guidance and advice here.

Thanks
Mark

it does hurt the first time you do major exercises, and usually it's not good advice to pop in painkillers. There's a reason that your muscles are hurting and it's because you put them under strain, if you kill the pain, then you're also ignoring it, along with the signals that it sends you. If it hurts for more than about two to 3 days, then something might be up. Listen to your body, it might be telling you that something's amiss. Also, I would check with your doctor first before taking any exercise, especially if you've had previous injuries or have certain health problems.

I still ache after every exercise but I've come to love it, and actually look forward to it. If I don't have this sweet ache after the exercise, I automatically think...maybe I did something wrong..or that maybe I didn't try hard enough...:surprised:

Mark, it'll pass. The best thing to do is try to keep going. Hot baths, mild exercise and advil will help for now. Stay the coarse and you'll be fine.

Thanks Cupcake and Charlie. I have no intention of stopping. I know what you mean about that pleasant pain from working out. Kind of a gauge as to how things are going. I'm going to try to take a long walk this evening and maybe lift a little to work that quad pain out. It's definitely more than usual.

Now I just need to find where to hit my pecs to get that "sweet ache" down lower. I could just be that that isn't muscle in the lower part!

(also, I'm not any taller yet )

I feel your pain. The first time I did them my legs were like jello. I had to hop in the car and travel 3 hours that morning. Let me tell you getting out of the car was an event - I'm glad there weren't any video cameras around.

CAdmonkey - be sure you are warming up and cooling down properly - 5 minutes of easy cardio will do the trick and help prevent injury/remove lactic acid and waste products.

Sounds like you did a good job on the sissy squats! Gotta love 'em!

Now do some squats with a medicine ball held between your upper legs..hoo-eeh.

Yeah, I whupped myself. Now I get it: Right after that workout, y'know what I did? Clomped upstairs, flopped into the recliner and watched TV. Duh! Never again. I'll do some cool-down walking afterwards.
