I started the 8 week Mass Program last night. One of the lifts was straight leg deadlift which I have never done before. I feel like it was more for my lower back than my hams. Any suggestions on how to feel it more in the hams?

I know the first time I did them, I felt it in my lower back, too... probably will for a while... I now make sure I lift mostly with my hams and use the back as the secondary muscle...

Question is how to focus more on the hams? Is it in my stance, the way I am holding the bar, the way I am lifting the weight. Right now I stand with my legs little less than shoulder width and hold the bar with one hand facing me and one hand facing away. I bend at the waist.

That is correct, but you just have to focus in your mind when you lift to use the hams and not the back... this is where form comes into play... I found it easier to lift with the back, but when I really focused on the movement, I used the hams with the back as the secondary...

I stand on a step or raised platform which allows me to stretch out deeper - particularly in later reps - that really hits the hamstrings.

Initially I had a hard time with this exercise. You can start off sloppy and not even know it. What I did was start with a low weight (the bar) and really focused on my form. I have my feet shoulder width and firmly on the floor. When I execute the movement I concentrate on keeping my knees slightly bent, back flat, and lower the bar slowly. I can feel it in the hammies. I find as I use more weight, I start to get a little sloppy. I am taking it nice and slow right now, gradually increasing the weight. I do love this exercise because I get a good burn in the hamstrings.

Oh I also forgot, I point my butt straight out. Almost as if I am taunting one of fryer's friends.
