Well, I lied. There is one in the bathroom so I can shave and floss and all that. I was out of town this past weekend and stayed in a hotel. Got out of the shower and looked at the fat guy in the mirror and just about fell over. Even though I have dropped five pounds I still look HUGE. Not John Goodman huge, but teetering on the brink of full-on fat guy huge. I was soooooo discouraged. I work out like a demon in the gym. I space my meals out. I eat my protein, my veggies, my good carbs, my fruits, all the good things. I do everything I'm supposed to...and I know I did everything I wasn't supposed to for a lot longer. It's just that I want the fat guy to go far, far away from me. Now, normally when I'm this upset I would run out and eat. I didn't. I was going to go to the hotel gym, but it was "Out of Order" (how does that happen?). I just feel like I'm NEVER going to get there. Like it's hopeless, you know? I've been a fat guy about 75% of my life. That 25% when I wasn't and was in decent shape I can't even remember anymore. Sorry to ramble on, but I'm just having a bit of a bad day with this. For the record, I'm 6'2", 264lbs and my BF (according to mybodycomp.com) is at 22%. I feel like that line in the movie "Postcards From The Edge" where Meryl Streep says, "Instant gratification takes too long." Ugh.

I know how you feel! You get this image in your head of what you look like and when you see yourself in a full length mirror it blows you away. I had one of those moments on the weekend, went to a friends home gym, mirrors everywhere, Ick! The worst part of it was watching myself shadow boxing, at least if you do it with no mirrors you can picture yourself as the lean, mean, fighting machine you want to be. When you are faced with the reality you think, "OMG there is just no way!"

Perhaps an older, Dark Knight Returns Bruce Wayne, Charlie! By that point he's supposed to be an alcoholic and depressed...but he comes back to kick butt. Okay, I haven't done the alcoholic thing (and won't), but I will come back and kick butt. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hey, Anglais, I am so very sorry you had a crappy day. But you are doing the right things and you are better for it every day! I got an idea, when you feel bad, think of me - 5'7", 228 pounds, nearly 43% BF, heck, even I have to laugh at it sometimes (or cry)!
Honestly, though, you have been an inspiration to me both with your posts and your wonderful attitude and now today, sharing your struggles has shown me you are also human (not just batman)! Here is a motto for you today that I hope will help you get through: Never look back unless you are planning to go that way! Just keep doing what you are doing, your body is better for it every day! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. We are always more hard with ourselves than we would ever be with others. :surprised:
Don't feel bad. It takes as long to loose weight as to put it on BUT we just don't realize it, and when we want to get rid of the belly; we want it FAST! Give the body a change to follow you and keep the mind smiling. Good luck! :) -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. www.nme-pro.com |

Stick with it. Mirrors add 50 lbs. Or at least mine do! If you have to look at yourself naked in a mirror - flex a few muscles you like to look at. (does that sound dirty?)
You're doing well. I like to go to www.myvirtualmodel.com and see what my body will look like (more or less) when I've lost a few pounds. It helps me see something different when I look in the mirror. |

I'm with you...I HATE looking at myself in the mirror. (not that I get much of a chance to when Hector is home)But when I do, I just try and see where I have gotten instead of where I have to go.
Three cheers for you that you didn't fall back into an old pattern, that is the obstacle of doom and you getting past it is a big signal that you will see more and more results as time passes. Be patient, good things come to those who work and wait! |

Hey, you could get a mirror like we have in our weight room/rec room - it is one of those closet door mirrors with the hinges in the middle, anyway we remodeled so I put the mirror down there so while my husband was practicing his singing he could see where he needed to improve on his stance, etc. while performing...anyway, I walked over to it the other day and if you stand right in front of it, it is like one of those fun house mirrors and it shows me SKINNY!!! If I stand to one side of the hinges or the other is shows me fat again! I showed him what I would look like skinny again and we had a good laugh, but hey, I like that skinny me much better!

Mirrors are EVIL things. . . I can feel so good about how I feel and then BAM. . . YIKES. . . RUN AWAY. . . latest case of that horror was yesterday. Hubby is in the Air Force and we are being transfered overseas to a Muslim country, so I've been having to revamp my wardrobe to make it more conservative, fewer tank tops, shorts, etc. This entails going clothes shopping, normally something a girl LOVES to do. . . till you face the "3 Way Mirror of Death" I wanted to cry, though I know I've lost weight and I can wear those size 16's I keep wanting to see my old size 10 self staring back at me. So I try to suck it in and wow what a mistake, never forget that though you can suck in the stomach. . . there is nothing you can do bout the hips, talk about looking pear shaped :( All that aside though I had to remind myself that it wasn't too long ago I was pushing that size 20 and I wouldn't have even been able to shop in the store I was in, that sufficed to cheer me up abit and strengthen my determination that I will lose this weight and be able to face that mirror one day and smile! Vent done :)-------------- Love me as I am . . . Let me worry about how I look! |

Thanks everyone for your kind words of encouragement. I do appreciate them. Kyrah, you're right, we can always suck it in! I happened to meet the woman who plays Sherry Palmer on "24" this weekend and asked to have a picture taken with her. She agreed and then laughed when I told the photog to hurry up because, "I can't suck it in any more!"

us girls are lucky. We can buy those underwear that suck it in for us. I remember when I was a fat teenager and thought it helped make me look thinner. I've now accepted that no piece of clothing can hide the obvious. "does this make me look fat?" "Yes - because I am!":laugh:

Hey, prairiegirl, I remember years ago I bought these control top thingys when I was to be in a wedding and the dress was extremely form fitting, all it tended to do was push all the fat upward, so my stomach appeared thinner, but it looked as if I had aliens trying to free themselves from my lower back! Eweeeee, sorry for the visual guys...
Hey, I have to share this though - it works with camera's too - I was upset as I looked so dreadfully chubba wubba in a photo and my dear, darling husband tried to comfort me by telling me, "honey, it's okay, you just don't take a good picture, your much more beautiful in person..." ummmm, was that a compliment? Gotta laugh it's a form of health food, I swear. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. prairie, I love the virtual model site. That's cool. I know I'm not as firm as my online counterpart, but she looks pretty good. Maybe I need to reassess my self-image.

Amg418, as you said, stick to it! Fill out a profile and use the exercise and nutritional programs to assist you. And, by the way, you can't let anything hold you back, if you have dreams you can make them reality if you work hard and not give up.-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Amg418 - have you talked to your doc about the weight gain from the medicine. Did he/she have any suggestions.
Stick with your program. Make sure you're eating enough of the good stuff and I'm sure you'll see great results. You're young. When I was 16 I could lose 5 pounds by sneezing. It's when you get older that it takes alot more to lose. |
