Just to check in, and say I am still running for the prize, I am here. However, I am unable to give very accurate numbers this week, because I am in the high rep part of my workout (12 reps). That being said I did have to increase the weight on Bench and Squat to make the sets hard enough, so watch out. However, on deads, just doind 12 in a set was a task and took a lot of concentration.
Mike and Princess congratulations on your numbers and keep going. Great job. Daniel Love |

I have no progress report to give. 2 weeks is not enough time for a well oiled machine such as myself to make significant changes. I need a month before there is a noticeable difference. The fact that I ate like an undisciplined slob this weekend doesn't help either. -------------- I cry once a day. |

Daniel, you can use the 1 rep calculator to get your figures even in the high rep part, right?
Whatever you increased the weight to for the 12 reps, it will calculate the expected 1 rep max. This is how I get my 1rm's for the challenge because I'm not comfortable trying to do a rep at the max (work out alone). Hec, my progress is minimal this week too, but I'm going to post biweekly updates for everyone - they don't have to be significant? Everyone, the first two weeks may not be much but it will all add up in the end.. I'm sure we'll all put up our greatest results at different points of the challenge but do send in your updates - it's part of the motivation even if there's not much to show yet! -------------- : ] ~Danielle The deepest rivers flow with the least sound. |

I wasn't being selfish, they just don't translate to anything. However, here they are.
My best squat set was 14*245 for a calculated max of 340 and a 40 lb loss from my previous max Bench is 16*170 calculater went to 15 reps, so that is what I entered and came up with 251 for a loss of 24lbs Dead is 12*245 for a calculated 354 and a loss of 40 lbs. Daniel Love |

Interesting... and pointless. Sorry! ..perhaps the effort of looking it up and typing it burned a few calories?? :(
It's bench, deadlift and squat (clothed) maxes, your royal laziness.. but hey, don't turn 'em in if you don't want, I'm just pointing out that it was established at the beginning of the challenge that we would check in every two weeks. Obviously if you don't we can't make you do pushups anymore because that would give you a competitive edge. Instead of docking points, we will send you out for cake and ice cream. Have seconds!! -------------- : ] ~Danielle The deepest rivers flow with the least sound. |

Dani, I am also doing a workout that calls for light weight for a time. I will update when it's meaningful. It's also wise to keep the puppies guessing. My record is in my journal.-------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

That is why I label them as calculated. I know they aren't as accurate as a one rep max, but it works for checking in. I don't think everyone is going to be comfortable with doing one rep maxes, so the calculator allows them to play as well.

I agree daniel. I am not comfortable doing heavy lifting so I am going to bench press the bar as many times as I can and use the calculator to tell me ho much I would have lifted.-------------- This message has been approved by the moderators. If you have a problem with it please contact Asimmer. |

Charlie,
I have seen it both ways. When I use high reps with lower weight the calc rep tends to be lower than my actual max. Other times I go to Max and the calculation is higher than what I can lift. I think a lot of it is psychological. I don't think the calculation when you use lower weights is that far off, but when you see the weight on the bar and feel it in your hands it can be different. I have been known to psych myself out. Daniel |

I made a mistake in what I typed. What I meant to say is "I don't think the calculation, when you use lower reps/higher weights, is that far off"
|

I don't have a spotter and have no desire for an ugly death under the bar. I have been using a weight that I can move 3 or 4 times and then plugging that into the calculator on the sight.-------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

I think that is fine. As long as you continue to do it the same way it will show progress. It is like the bodyfat calculator. It may not be the most accurate measure in the world, but as long as you don't switch methods, it will show you what you are doing. Besides, I think a triple is considered pretty accurate.

BTW ,I concour with hec on the dark horse thing. It's not ghetto though. The dark horse is the unnoticed one who emerges from the pack and wins the race.Like I said in your log. It's been a pleasure watching your progress.
But beware hec, is sandbagging. I've hauled enough marines around to know how to spot it. The devil dogs are a great asset to the navy.:big_smile: -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie

i will say that my actual 1rms are higher than what's calculated, mostly because i don't go to failure on most of my sets. it says my max squat is 190 on the calculator. i think i could probably crank out 205 on a good day. same thing with deadlifts - i don't think 225 is out of my range, but the calculator says 215. i think it's mind over matter.-------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. |

Calculated 1 rep max as of week six
squat 403 187% dead 294 136% Bench 196 91% Weight 215 Average is 138% which is up from 132% at the beginning. I'm 2 weeks from hitting real maxes. The routine I'm doin allows me to lift at 90% this week and 95% next week. I still do 3 to 4 reps and calculate since i have no spotter. I will win. -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie |
