When I did my profile to determine calories, fat, protein and carbs it says my maximum is 3037 for medium level activity....how in the world do I lose weight that way? I thought it should be more like 1500 calories to lose and I have no idea fat, carbs, protein...can someone help here as if I ate even 2500 calories a day I'd balloon even more! Thank you!

Some people do find the calorie suggestions a bit high on this site. This is because it is not possible to know exactly how much each individual needs without using some pretty scientific equipment - so the figure is just an estimation.
It is important that you eat enough to stop your metabolism slowing and I would have thought 1500 might be a little low. A good idea I'm stealing from other FT members is to try certain number for a week or two, if you don't lose weight cut back by a further 250-500 cals the next week. I'd think maybe 1750-2000 might be about right but again that's just an estimate, other people mihgt have other ideas

I appreciate it, princesslodgey, I just know I would pork out big time if I ate that many calories in a day. I'll try the idea about seeing what a week or two does...thanks for your help!

The most important thing is how many calories you have been getting in previously - that is your baseline diet. Count calories for 4 days and average out the daily total, that will give you your baseline. From there you can gradually icrease or decrease calories or just shift ratios.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I am not eating enough. The 1500-1800 calories were well below the 3100 or so this site recommended. I'm at the gym 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice and I think the lack of calories was keeping me down. So make sure you eat enough ... but not too much.
Fine balancing act isn't it!

prairie girl - incraese your calories a little at a time to give your body time to adjust to it.

Thanks Asimmer. I've been trying to increase a little bit, mainly by adding milk to my diet. I wasn't sure how else I wanted to add in the calories and thought a glass or two of milk was healthy. Also I'm letting myself have whole wheat bread once in a while.

It definately makes sense what you are all saying, thank you. I just posted on another area explaining my problem with binging. I would starve myself, then binge, figuring if no one saw me eat, I wasn't eating..duh! So, I've come clean now and I will take your advice and make sure I am eating enough, not too much and use the 6 meals a day advice, which I used before and really helped with my hunger also. Well, onward and forward!

Vegetables are a good way to increase your caloric intake, as is a little extra lean protein and maybe some nuts or natural peanut butter.
