Does a tan make you look more cut or excentuate muscle tone? If so, how much?

I need to tan in the worst way. I am kind of skeptical of those tanning beds though. It seems like concentrated UV rays or something. I dunno... It just seems weird to me.

By 'how much', I mean in regards to the degree of difference it makes. Does it make a slight difference or a profound difference or somewhere in between? Also, why does it do this? Does it have something to do with shadow or something?
I was thinking about getting a hollywood tan- its an evenly placed fake tan done in 6 seconds. No UV rays. Tanning beds are said to be worse for your skin than the sun itself.

If you are pretty fairly cut, it will greatly accentuate your cuts. A tan can make a rather drastic appearance change in your physique.

Isn't that the same theory that bodybuilders use when they put the bronze stuff on themselves before comp?

yes.
David_s81, get a fake tan, tanning isn't worth the risk of skin cancer. They have come a long way in fake tanning products, whether you choose to go to a spray booth or do it yourself.

asimmer, I have heard from a couple of sources that back up your claim. The fake tanning does the same effect, and also fades, the same way a real tan would. How often would you have to apply the tanning solution to keep it up?

I think it depends on what you use and how often you shower.
I like coppertone endless summer, it doesn't look fakey orange and if you keep an eye on it while it develops, you don't get streaky. It last 4-5 days, and fades gradually.
I haven't tried the spray booth yet - but I think I will for summer, when I want a total body tan that would be easier than the lotion.
