On tuesday I was doin` squats, and I tried different ways of doin` em, this is what I have noticed:
-heel support and goin` all the way down - it works for me

- with and without the support goin` half way put pressure on my knees and I could feel a bit of pain

For some reason I feel `em better when goin` all the way
down.. I do not go that haevy thou I still wanna get the technique right plus wanna work on my jumpin` ability.....

....now I know why people say they`re good exercise, after the workout I couldn`t go up the stairs and two days after still feel out of energy...that`s why I`m movin` my todays work out till tomorrow.

Bicep,
I used to do squats that way with a board behind my heels so my mid foot down was on the floor. I read about it in that old bodybuilding mag called world weightlifting federation with Tom Platz. Anybody ever seen it? Is it still in print? Stay focused. the Hog

Hi bicep, I also have problems with squats, except my problem is with my back, there is no way I can do full squats so I have to confine mine to half, but I have great results with leg press and extentions. A lot of the pro's bind their knees when they do heavy weights with presses and squats. Another good exercise is lunges I do them with light weights. You are right about technique , that is a must and a 1st the heavy weights come later.

The squat is the King of all exercises. When I have trouble going up and down stairs for the next couple of days, I know they are working. I'm about to begin a program using Breathing Squats, which apparently assist in rapid hypertrophy. I guess I'll find out...

so...to resurrect an old thread...
the board behind your heels...how high of a board? think i could use 2.5 lb plates instead? i'm having a tough time keeping my weight on my heels - maybe also b/c i'm wearing running shoes??? last week i managed to lose my balance while trying to shift my weight :( i'm too short for the cage, so i'm really lucky my bf was there spotting me!

and the belt thing. i'm not really doing heavy weight. i don't want to kill my legs for an entire week because i'm also running. so...is it really that important? i've read mixed reviews.

thanks!

I do not wear a belt and am workin to 300+ without one. The reason is that if hurt my stomach to wear one during squats...there is no real reason short of an injury or very heavy weight to wear one and studies have shown that wearing knee wraps and belts (unless extreme weight is being used) is bad, the wraps do not let the tendons and such gain strength and therefore can cause injury even when used...and the belt can raise blood pressure and promote weak back muscles so wear at own risk....
