im having an operation later in the year and wont be able to exercise for at least 6 weeks , ive been using a rowing machine and free weights daily . im not bulky in muscle mass but im concerned that any work i put in over the last yr will be lost. How long does it take for muscle to turn into fat approx. the best ill be able to do for 6 weeks or so is brisk walking which wont help my upper body
thanks in advance
First muscle is not going to turn into fat, it simply can not do that. You can gain fat, while lossing muscle but one does not turn into the other, two completely different tissues. As long as you keep a eye on diet and walk as you can you should not loose a lot of muscle or gain fat, unless you totaly pig out on bad food choices. You will lose some strength , but the comes back fairly quickly after you can start up again. I would not worry about it that much. Just work out as hard as you canuntil that time then relax and heal and get better...you might be surprised that much time off may be a good thing as you grow mucsle while you rest....

Hi sidz. I read somewhere that it aproximately takes your body 2 weeks to switch from a fat burning high metabolism to a slower metabolism which will start to accumulate fat.
I guess my advice would be to decrease your caloric intake in order to make up for the little exercise you would be doing on your rehab time. I would also like to hear another opinion about this.
