hey all, a lot of you know Kyrah and I, she has been strugling with her weight a bit, and I am doing the mass building thing. She plateued a bit ago, and we desided to do this to solve the problem.
three day rotation: first day run 2 miles, sectioned up prity evenly(we use the lamp posts), run 2/3rds of the time, and walk 1/3rd of it. Second day run 3 miles, same run/rest. Third day Rest. The run is really a jog, the reason we are not just plain running is Kyrah does not have the endurance for an all out 3 mile run yet. Do you think this is healthy? any ideas on ways to make it better? Or improve the workout? We do do some weights on Day 1, but she is so beat after the run that she can't do a whole lot. I fit in my workout around it, since my mass building is really secondary to her loosing weight, less mass is not going to kill me, being overweight has the potential to. -------------- Sean "TBAR" Johnson -USAF- |

Darn it, I wrote a whole long thing and it didn't go through..
Anyway, check out HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training. I have just started and it is supposed to help you lose fat, burn more calories and continue to burn them after throughout the day. Cardio, up at your max, back low and up again. Do a search on here to find out more. Also, you will see my posts on here. |

HIIT is cool, and I like the idea, however I am looking for a longer duration workout than HIIT allows. 20 minutes does not do it for me, and Kyrah is looking to get that 3 mile jog down so she can jog the entire thing non-stop. Unless she states otherwise to me I think that she likes this type of workout and wants to continue it, we are looking for tweeking ideas really.-------------- Sean "TBAR" Johnson -USAF- |

relique-I like to do different cardio exercises on my cardio days that way it doesnt get boring and I am sticking to my new plan pretty heavy and I can see a noticeable difference in my stomach already!
I like to do Monday-Boxing (spar for a bout 30 minutes or so doesnt have to be with a human you can use a heavybag or whatever Wednesday-Running-I like to go to this wild refuge we have and they have a trail that is like 2 miles it has different forms of landscape uphill downhill and flat land that is a real workout I finished that in about 20 minutes Friday-Boxing-This time I usually go with jumping rope or sparring some more The boxing doesnt wear you out as much and it builds endurance because now I am boxing for a steady 20-25 minutes without tiring. |

Ok, think I need to clarify something here LOL, the work out he has posted here is for me. I'm 90lbs over weight and not in the best shape of my life. What we do is 2days on 1 day off we go to the fitness center on base and Jog/Walk the track. 1st of the 2 days we do 2 laps jogging 2 light poles then walking 1, kinda like a HIIT program, then after the 2 laps we go inside and do weights: BP, Dips, Curls, Skull Crushers sometimes, and Squats for the most part. 2nd Day of the 2 we do 3 laps around the track same way jog 2 poles, walk 1. Now this has been working for me as I've lost 5lbs since we started doing this a week ago. Any comments?-------------- Love me as I am . . . Let me worry about how I look! |

Am I allowed to say "I don't really like lifting weights" on this web site or is this gonna get deleted?
Anyways that is why we do the running first, an hour of weights before and I'd be copping out of the running to go home  -------------- Love me as I am . . . Let me worry about how I look! |

but that training you're doing with Relique is good too. build up endurance. But you can do those on your cardio days when you aren't doing lifting. Just so you won't get too tired. :) goodluck!-------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. hi kyrah :) if you're looking to lose that 90 more lbs and keep it off in the long run, I'd say "love the lifts...be one with the lifts...Be the lift" or some such stuff. Trust me, muscles require a lot more energy to function than fat, even at rest.
And besides, do the weights first before the cardio. That way, you don't get tired, and after your weightlifting session, you've burned a buttload of calories. So by the time you do your cardio, you're metabolism is sizzling. I need to lose about 20 more, and I've learned to love weight lifting. I used to be the huge girl at the back sweating it off the treadmill and really thinking that all those plates and bars were for guys. That is, until I finished my first week with weight training. I loved it. I still do. -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. Now for the love of god...put the donut...DOWN!!! -cupcake- |

Every pound of muscle burns about 35-50 calories per day just to maintain itself. Therefore, the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn even when you’re just sitting around. Is it said that after age 30, adults lose about a third of a pound to a half a pound of muscle each year without strength training. With every 1 pound of muscle loss, you are burning 35-50 calories less per day. Here's an example to help you understand the importance of muscle mass. If you're 50 years old and you've lost 6 pounds of muscle mass, you might be expending 200-240 calories less per day than when you were 30 years old. So even with aerobic exercise and a moderate diet, if you're not strength training you could have a higher percentage of body fat. Simply stated, less muscle means fewer calories burned and more calories stored as fat. The bottom line with muscles is "use them or loose them." Strength training will help reduce the amount of muscle mass lost with age and help you reduce body fat.

if you need to run a 5k, break your body in first with some runs spread out over 2 weeks, I went for 2 weeks straight (running 3 times a week) to get myself back into the groove after I gained 50 pounds from not working out :(
