That's a good question. I think (cause I don't know for sure) that if you have a sound diet you should be fine with the following consideration: you need energy to sustain long bouts of cardio. Therefore, I would stay away from low carb diets. For me cardio endurance has always been a question of oxygen intake and discipline as opposed to muscular endurance. Are you talking marathon-type cardio?

Pretty similar to what bodybuilders eat, a little different - according to "Diets designed for Athletes" here are the basics -
" During training and competition, endurance athletes need about .75grams of protein per pound of bodyweight per day - 1.2 to 1.4g per kg of bodyweight - to maintain a positive nitrogen balance and to promote muscle growth and recovery."
So, figure out yopur total calories, 15-20% comes from fat, figure out your protein needs and the rest of your calories will come from carbohydrates.
You need carbohydrates for energy and endurance.
Check out Grocery List for a Bodybuilder in the nutrition forum for some ideas of what to make your meals out of.
eat 5-6 small meals, evenly spaced throughout theday.
Drink lots of water to stay hydrated, which affects performance.
gOOD LUCK!
-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight.
