Ok, before i begin this post, i shall give you some background as well as make a couple disclaimers. Yes, i know 'listen to your body' has been said before, and i paid attention to it, but now im aware that i didn't understand it entirely until yesterday (don't ya love hindsight). Second disclaimer, i was using proper technique, and i even had a spotter.

Now, for the background: I used to play baseball...absolutely loved it. I played catcher. At a summer camp during my 6th grade year, i just about shattered my patella fully (knee cap). So, it slowly slowly got better...by the time my 7th grade season came around i was back in the game...but every now and then my knee would have a 'fluke' it would POP what seemed to be separation almost and render my left leg completely useless, and i would collapse. So, i started wearing kneebraces during sports. This helped it and i hadn't had problems since.

Flash forward: Yesterday afternoon i learned a valuable lesson. I always knew in the back of my mind that the knee thing COULD come back (like the dr. said). But it had been so strong since then, i had yet to see any problems. Ok, so in the middle of squats yesterday afternoon, i make it through 3 of my four sets perfectly...no problems. On my fourth set (standing in the power rack) i felt my knee kinda twitch before i went down for the first rep...ok, i did fine, came back up no problems. Second rep, same, no problems...spotter still standing 5 feet behind me ready incase i called him in. Going down on the third rep...i move TWO INCHES downward and all of a sudden i find myself squatted down in catcher position with the bar on the power rack (THANK GOD) and i immediately know what happened. My spotter runs up and says 'dude, you didnt show any signs of struggle, you just kinda.....dropped, i didn't have a chance to help' Yeah...my knee gave out...back to knee braces.

I gave my knee a few minutes so i could get my nerves under control seeing as that shook me up greatly. I went and started lightly on leg presses and my knee stayed fine through all four sets of those even when i went to just below what i normally do for my last set.

So, moral of the story: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Por el amor de los dios, listen to it! My knee tried to tell me it wasn't feeling up to snuff yesterday, but i didn't know that...i'm stupid. Flame me if you will, but i'm already feeling pretty crappy about it.

No Flame here man, you seemed to have gained some knowledge from it, and didn't hurt yourself, or anyone else!!

You deff should wear some sort of brace if your knee is bad like that, I also have knee problems, but have not ever felt anything from Squats, but now and then my knee does give out when doing sports, unfortunately it stops me from doing most now, and I can't run..or at least I stear clear :(

Man, that is kinda scary. I heard Knee Cap problems are like dislocated shoulders, once it happens, it is sort of a bit iffy from then on, even after total recovery. Reminds me of an Australian Football star, dislocated his knee while playing, you could see his knee cap had drifted outwards and backwards and was on the outer side of his leg, he had obviously done it before because he began smacking his palm into the side of his leg, and knocked the Knee Cap back into position, one of the most sickening things I have seen in sport, his knee just looked so bad. Mind you after popping it back in he walked himself off the field for treatment. (6 weeks off). A bit off the beaten track, but I thought I'd share that with you.
