I was watching the news the other night, and I was a little ticked off when I saw one of our provincial MLA's talking about the fitness equipment he has for the government office here in Alberta. I kind got a little p.o'd... I thought, how dare they spend MY tax dollars on something I can't use!
I started to think about it some more, still a little ticked off I can't use the gear MY tax dollars bought, but I thought this is where the whole fitness thing has to start!
I don't think the average person understands how much pressure obesity and unhealthy lifestyles place on our health care system. Our government in Alberta made some huge changes to the health care system here... some liked it and some didn't.
In the past few years our government has seemed to put the focus of the health system on the population. It has made me think that perhaps living a healthier lifestyle will relieve some of the pressures on the health centres and hospitals in our province. They have set up websites with information on health (http://www.gov.ab.ca/acn/200402/15980.html) and make information available to all in Alberta and around the world via the net.
This morning I heard the average length of a shift for a medical resident is 25 hours. Not good... do you want a doc who's been up for more than an entire day helping you?
While I feel we all have a responsiblilty as a province to help with health care, I also feel it is as an idividual I can help relieve some stress on health care providers by making a lifestyle change.
Quoting asimmer:
"Also - in the long run you will save more on medical expenses if you spend more on healthy foods."
I'm tired of hearing people complain about never being able to see a doctor, or the five hour wait in emergency or whatever.... alot of medical problems start in the kitchen and cupboards.
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I just felt I had to say something... this seems like as good a place as any!
Thanks,
t

there was recently a editorial in our local paper about creating a obesity tax. Because of the incline of it. A reader wrote in and I damn well nearly wanted to find her number so I could call and verbally woop her hinny. Well she went on about Bikers having to wear helmets and what not so she stated that. Instead of taxes people who are fat and have no self control should be forced to wear muzzles so that they cannot eat. Being that I am FAT!!! I took great offense to this. Damn I could picker her bike up and throw it at her but I am still fat . I feel it was bad judgement on the DNC to print this incediary comment. Your right the Govts every where need to work on the socio econonomics that make it cheaper to buy a big mack then a chicken breat and fresh veggies. So some day if i ever see her with her bike dumped laying on top of her. I will gracefully pick it up off her and tell her remember a FAT!!! person saved your rear!!
