What muscles pull the shoulders back to stop them from slouching forward and give the upper body a broader look?

Is it the back muscles (lats) or the shoulder muscles themselves?

What exercises will help this?

Thanks!!

The lats give you that v shape across the back also the delts help give you that broader look.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.

I have the same problem. Specially my right shouder is sticking out more. I try to be conscious of the problem and pull the shoulders back during the day. But I would be most interested in hearing any advice on this problem, too. Thanks in advance!!

This was just discussed recently - I bumped it; it's under the subject Sagging Shoulders.

Thanks, Jessica for that bump. :)

I think I need to see a chiropractor, too. My rib cages are uneven, too. My left rib sticks out more noticeably.

Work your upper and middle back with seated cable rows, one arm rows and shrugs and don't forget to stretch your chest - tight pecs will pull your shoulders forward.

Also - posture takes practice - you need to remind yourself through out the day to pull your shoulders back and to sit up straight with your head level over your torso. Your back will ache during the adjustment period (muscles get lazy and don't like to change) but it wil help - stick with it!

Posture was something we were taught in elementary school back in the day. I don't think they teach it anymore. That's unfortunate. I'm 42 and my mom still reminds me, "stand up straight." or "Stop slouching." Bless her heart.

somthing we tell the cheerleaders...is when your in front of the crowd pull shoulders back, hold stomach in and lift up....( suck in and up) feels stupid but it will help your posture
