If the friction remains a problem, running stores carry a product called Body Glide that reduces friction in problem areas. Though it's meant more for the pits or thighs, I've seen a lot of long-distance runners use it on their feet with decent results.

I played two (rough) games of soccer yesterday and I am felling it today. Bumps, bruises, cuts and burns and I still love it! Am I a warrior or am I killing myself?

Another question: any athletes out there get blood blisters or other friction type problems with there feet? What do you do for treatment/prevention and does quality of equipment make that much of a difference?

Sounds pretty normal to me for a healthy 21 year old. Quality equipment definitly matters. Pop the blisters if they hurt. Just don't do it right before you play.

If you pop them make sure you put some antibiotic ointment on. I didn't one time and got a serious infection.

I played Soccer through High School and at the College level. I found that that yes the quality of your shoe matter greatly - I never deviated from Miter - tried Puma and I paid the price. Also (this may seem strange) I would wear a pair of thin socks and put a thicker pair over them with the shin pads between them. I'm not sure if they make shoes where you can change the studs, but I would also stay away from them - they always seemed to dig into my feet.
Hope that helps - I envy you, I really miss that game.

Or you can use a gel deodorant stick - rub it on your foot where you get chafing to lubricate.(probably cheaper)

i used to get blisters from my combat boots all the time.i ended up putting powder on my feet and in boots to absorb miosture and aid in lub to stop friction.if your cliets are all leather and still kinda new wear them in very hot shower to mold them to your feet them pack them over night with newspaper to absosrb all the miosture out of them that helped mold my boots to my feet and stopped most of my problems since shoes/boots usually are generic in shape and most peoples feet are not.hope it helps you somewhat of at least giv es you a agood laugh because your buddies sure as hell will laugh at you but if it helps you'll have the last laugh

Thanks everyone! Has anyone ever used tape? I tried electrical tape (all that was lying around) but the sweat just took away the adhesive. I'll try the double socks tonight fsdsk.

csferrie, I am glad everybody agreed you were a warrior and not an idiot... If you were deemed an idiot that would make me a lip diddling tongue chewing mouth breather. Soccer on !!!!!

I think there is a aid hikers use called second skin that you can slip over blisters while they heal. - Mike

Thanks Charlie!

Went to the doctor and she said she has never seen it before. It is not really a blister. It is like a callus. It is dead skin but underneath it is black, like dried blood. Doctor said to take it off with a pumice stone.

Oh and fsdsk, the double layer socks works great! Makes a nice tight fit into the shoe!

csferrie,
During my days in the military we were exposed to avariety of conditions..the worst being wading through rivers in our boots, they never dried before you had walked for another two to three hours...end result, toes that looked like raisens and blistered making your feet appear as if they were being haunted by a zillion fat grey ticks.

So... a troop wisens up. We started soaking our feet in methylated spirits first thin in the AM and again in the evening about two to three weeks before heading out...it worked wonders as it dried out the skin toughening up the soles etc.

And as said somewhere above, when you get blisters, pop them when you can and treat the wound with an alchol based anti septic.

Cheers,

Avoiding blisters: 1.)double socks - use synthetics not cotton. Idea: womens knee-hi nylons under your socks (they dont have to show!) 2.)slick, moisterized skin - BodyGlide, Sports Slick are products to coat your feet with for looong walks or runs. And most important 3.)shoes that fit YOUR foot properly.. use inserts to assist. All shoes are different.. find the one that matches your foot shape and stick with it.

Hey csferrie,
I am experiencing similar problems with my hockey skates. On my right foot, the skates rub so much that in one spot, more bone has grown, making the pain even worse. (The doctor said that from all the rubbing, the body sends a signal for more bone to grow).

Anyway, I tried everything. I bought gel inserts, and cut them and taped them to the place where I have the problems, bone growth and blisters. nothing seemed to work. Anything I taped on would either add to much pressure or come off from the sweat.

What i do now is I found at the grocery store this stuff called "mole skin". I dont think it is really mole skin, but it is meant for blisters. It sticks really well, so rather then your skin giving, this takes the blunt.

Also, Like many other here said, I wear a think sock under my regular socks. This sock prevents blisters because rather then your skin sliding back and forth, the sock does. The sock underneath is one that I would normally wear when I wear slacks or a suit.

Also, I went out and bought some brand new white socks because they are thicker then the worn ones I had been wearing.

Also, you can try putting some vaseline on it for extra lubrication.

Good luck!!
