Hello,
I recently started taking cell tech creatine. I am a hard gainer and the person at the health food store said that cell tech is good because of the sugar and the insulin spikes and they said that this is the best for gaining good mass. I have read many of the other posts and see that it is good to take the insulin spiking supplements after a workout. I workout at night and cannot take the cell tech after a workout because all of the sugar keeps me up.

My question is, am I really benefiting from the cell tech if not taking it after workouts or will I be just as good taking plain creatine with water after a workout?

Also, if the insulin spiking supplements are the way to go, I am going to make my own delivery system as I have seen in many posts here. One question, many of the posts say the cell tech contains chromium picolinate. Isn't it chromium polynicotonate? they are different I believe?

Thanks!!

If you want to maximise your gains, then yes it is. Your "window of opportunity" is an essential time for super uptake of nutrients. Do not take this time lightly. You will be fine taking your chromium with your post workout shake, in fact, some Vit. C and other antioxidants would not be a bad idea either, help supercharge the immune system. This is supercompensation time.

On another note, this is why I like using dextrose/malto combo. If you work out late like you do, you can adjust your serving size, still raise your insulin for max uptake, and have a protein/fats meal before bed to slow digestion and help recovery. Besides, the science proves that dextrose/malto is the best combo in a half and half mixture with protein. Take your plain micronized creatine about 20 minutes into your drink all at once, as you will have adequate levels of serum insulin by this time. Chromium mimics insulin, this is why it is good at this time also.

Thanks bb1fit. I am confused by your last post. If I just take the plain micronized creatine without the dextrose, how will my serum insulin levels be adequite? I thought that is what the dextrose is for. Sorry if i am totally wrong here.

Also, I was reading one of your other posts about alpha lipoic acid. You said that r-ala is good and s-ala is worthless. I found that most labels don't differentiate between the two. Do you know any good brands that use r-ala?

Thanks in advance!

I am sorry if I confused you. I wasn't aware I said to take the micronized creatine without the dextrose. Here is the scenario. Make your post workout drink with dextrose/malto/protein. Chug half of it down immediately, sip the rest for the better part of 45 min. to 1 hr. Now, here is where you probably got confused. What I stated was about 20 minutes into this drink, have your creatine by itself. You will have by this time high levels of serum insulin, and the creatine should be readily absorbed. Continue to sip on your PWO shake till it is gone. You cannot mix the creatine in with the shake because it cannot sit in a fluid that long without turning to a waste product, creatinine. Hope this clears things up. You will find it much cheaper to buy dextrose and malto also.

You can do this, the reason behind the sipping is just to not get too large an inuslin spike, then get the dreaded blood sugar drop. And to re-regulate(down regulate) if you will. Even though it is a "super compensation" time, it is still very possible to overload our body’s capacity to digest. This can lead to dreaded fat storage.
