Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I do not drink enough water or anything, for that matter. One of the reasons is that I'm never thirsty. If I am thirsty, I'm usually hungry for a Sprite... however, I'm trying to lay off of the sugar drinks. So, the other reason why I HATE drinking water is the constant trips to the restroom... Does that ever go away? Will my body get used to drinking large quantities of water?
Please help as I know water is important but I think drinking it totally sucks... not because of the flavor (or lack thereof) but because I'm not thristy and the quantity of restroom trips. -------------- Look Life in the Face |

The more water you drink, the less your body retains water, so it dispells it freely. This is really good if you have a water retention problem. If not, water will never hurt you. I taper mine off each day about 3-4 hours before bed, so I don't get up during the night. But take in any amount of water you can, you don't have to carry a jug or anything, every time you by a water fountain at work for instance, stop and take a drink. Use water if it helps you to curb the sprite thing too. This in itself is worth it.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Shakkai - This is funny, I was thinking the same thing this morning about all the trips to the RR. For me, it gets my butt off my office chair on a regular basis. I have found that if you lay off sodas for awhile, then have one like a month later, it is way too sweet.

Shakkai, you can also try the flavored waters. I did that for a while and started "watering " them down. It helps make the transition though. Become a lable reader though. Some "waters" are worse than the soda.-------------- Some times life is like herding cats. Charlie | |

What brought this all up was that I realized yesterday that all I had was a coffee and a pop. I was soooooo disappointed in myself. So, this morning I had a water and it went right through me!!!
BB1, it sounds to me like what you are saying is that if I am "dispell"ing freely, then I am not retaining water, which is good. Did I get that correct? What's the big deal with retaining water anyway? Aren't our bodies like 80% water? -------------- Look Life in the Face |

A few things:
1)When you are thirsty, you are already over 50% dehydrated - not a good thing! The key is to never let your self get there. And like bb1 said, helping you stay away from the sprite is in itself a good thing. 2)Caffiene is a diuretic, i.e., makes you pee more and lose water faster, therefore, dehydrate quicker. 3)Since you have a history of keeping your body less-then well hydrated, it will hold on to every drop that it can. Once you start drinking sufficient amounts of water, your body will start releasing the held on to water (the constitantly hitting the restroom). This will taper off once your body hits an equilibrium. 4) Yes, your body is made mostly of water, but the retention is used primarily as a survival tool, not an every day function. It is stored (mostly subcutaneously), and is not used for necesessary bodily operations, such as kidney filtration, intra-cellular hydration, etc. -------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! "When you are thirsty, you are already over 50% dehydrated - not a good thing!" WOW! I didn't know that!
Rev, you have given me even more inspiration to start doing this better... I don't think I've ever hit an equilibrium with this because all the "dispelling" turns me off. HOPEFULLY a lot of my weight is water retention then and I'll lose some weight (HAHA wishful thinking!!). Thanks Rev. -------------- Look Life in the Face |

theyre all going easy on you! This is the biggest mistake anyone could make ever! you need to drink at least 35 gallons of water per day, otherwise you will gain weight, lose muscle, get acne, lose sleep and DIE!
Good Luck ;) |

"...otherwise you will gain weight, lose muscle, get acne, lose sleep and DIE!"
Sarcasm aside, j, all of these things that you mentioned are possible effects from insufficient water intake (especially the death part.....lol!). But 12 glasses, not 35 gallons, is a good place to start, depending on your needs. During the summer out here in the desert, it is not unheard of to easily do 2 gallons a day... -------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Well, yesterday I drank 80 ounces of water... It felt like a gallon but I just found out it wasn't even a gallon. Oh well, it's an improvement anyway. I'm going to continue to work on this and hopefully the trips to the restroom will slowly subside. haha
Thanks to all the responses. I clearly have neglected my body with regards to water intake. -------------- Look Life in the Face |
