All right - any boxers out there? My friend owns a boxing gym, and I always threatened him that I was going to start attending - but now that I moved down the street from it, I actually really want to. It seems like a great workout, but I'm really scared of the idea of people hitting me. I know it would be a while before I'd have to spar (after I get into the shape for it), and by then I'd feel better about it, I'm sure...but still....

Any words of wisdom?

You'll never know until you try...I say, conquer your fear. Besides, you're in it for the workout benefits and not really interested in becoming a competitive boxer, right?

Good luck, Roxie...I'm sure you'll love it once you give it a go!

Boxing is a beautiful sport is you can learn the sweet science of it. It gives you a great workout and will build muscle in the upper body a bit. I use to attend a boxing gym and sparred all the time w/ the fighters that had fights. You shouldnt be afraid as long as you can trust the other person that is all their is to it. You should be wearing protective head gear more in different parts of the body as you wish. Besides sparring with head gear on never hurt anybody you are NOT suppose to put power in punches when sparring just little pitter patter slaps pretty much to get the feel of the movement.

I hate the smell of the cardboard and those razor knife thingies. No more boxing for me.

I like the idea of boxing, but I don't know that I could actually do it. For now, it's just for the workout benefits. :-)

Very rarely do you ever see an out of shape boxer (except some of the heavyweights), so you know it's going to be a great effective workout.

Hey, I can vow for the 3 minute round boxing being equivalent to running a long distance. After one round, my body was drained and I felt like I had just did a ton of cardio. I consider myself in decent shape.. but this was just something else.. lol. Give it a try, and you'll lose weight like mad for sure.
