Anyone have any comments good or bad on the Atkins Diet? I have been on it now for a couple of weeks, and have lost about 17 lbs. Some people swear by it and others say its the worst thing for you. I work out 4 times a week and do cardio 4x a week and had been stuck at 270. Was on a 2200 calorie diet. My diet consisted of whole grains, skinless chicken breast, baked potatoes, from what I had been reading was the proper diet well like I said I had been stuck at 270. Then I read the book and it made sense with the whole high carb diet and the blood sugar and the storing of fat, so I tried it and like I said I have lost 17 lbs and the weight is still coming off at a steady pace. One thing I have gathered from talking to people is the they think its an all out fat feast, but its not. Basically your just cutting out high carb foods you still get plenty of healthy veggies such as asparagus, broccoli, tomatoes, zucchini, ect. you just stay away from the high carbs such as potatoes and pastas. The best thing is I can just eat and not have to really worry about counting calories just have to watch the carbs. It is a really easy diet for me to follow I'm never hungry and have plenty of energy. But like I said any input one way or another would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'm not quite sure what kind of input you're looking for. You obviously are aware that it's a controversial diet and you're going to hear/read both good and bad things about it. And based on what you've said, I see you're following the diet the 'healthy' way instead of consuming mounds of bacon and cheese.
Try doing a search on the boards for Atkins, maybe you'll find what you're looking for.

I work in food & nutrition in an healthcare environment. I have discussed this diet several times with my clinacal staff. We will not recommend this diet as a balance means to reducing weight. Does it work - yes. But there are possible long term side effects. Side effects like major organ failure. Please continue to research. The true means to proper weight loss is creating a balance diet that you will stick to long term.
I know there are many views on this subject and you will see much controversy as you see more posts to this question.
Good Luck with whatever decision you make!

I couldn't do it - it made me sick & I didn't have any energy. One person told me to cut back slow into it & that would help. I am switching to the whole grains & cutting the white stuff out more but not totally.
I just really need to get away from the sodas which is my big problem

I'm a Dr Pepper & the diet Dr Pepper makes my arm shake so I'm worried about drinking the diet drinks - I have increase my water & that is helping alot. But when I stop completely I get awful headaches that don't go away until I have a Dr Pepper so I'm cutting back slowly & it seems to work alot better. I"m down to 3 a day - I used to drink at least 8 a day (I guess that shows where I was getting alot of my caliores at huh?)
