Hi, I'm new here. I've recently lost over 100# having had the gastric bypass surgery. I know that I have about 60-70 more pounds to lose....I can't eat as much food at one time as most people and I know that I am not getting enough protein. I can drink a lot of fluid at one sitting...and was wondering about a simple protein shake I can make myself...I want to acheive fat loss.......any suggestions?

I'm not gonna touch this one...anybody else? Before anyone posts advice to RJANSSEN65, please know what a gastric bypass is and know that their diet should be taken up with their doctor first.

The gastric bypass is weight loss surgery. I am suppose to be able to eat pretty much anything...however I am trying to stay low carb and high protein...

rjanssen65, is there some reason you don't want to use a store bought supplement. Why not research whats out there, run it by your Doc and go from there?

I am aware what gastric bypass surgery is and I commend you for taking that step, BUT, please check with your doctor first. Your nutritional values are different than most of ours because of your surgery.

You can blend cottage cheese, skim milk, 1 tbsp. natural peanut butter, liquid eggwhites, flavoring of your choice. You can even add a low sugar yogurt for flavoring. Would be a decent daytime shake, not for post workout though. I would get a tub of cheap whey protein, you can get a 5 lb. jug of of optimum nutrition whey for 22 bucks. Add a scoop of it, and you have a great shake.

If you perfer, here is a decent protein bar homemade. Add as much fluids as you need to make it moister. You can use standard skim milk instead of soy milk.

10 tbsp. natural peanut butter
5 egg whites
5 scoops whey protein (I find that chocolate mint tastes the best in this recipe, however chocolate tastes good as well)
2 cups oats (OPTIONAL: For flavor, I dry cook these on a frying pan until they are toasted)
1/2 cup soy milk

DIRECTIONS

Mix the peanut butter and egg whites in a bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, and mix well (so that the mixture appears smooth). Repeat 4-5 times until all traces of egg whites have dissolved into the peanut butter, and your mixture is a smooth consistent one.

Gradually add the protein (one scoop at a time) and stir into the mixture. Next, add the soy milk and follow with the oats. Continue mixing until a thick 'sticky' mixture is present.

Smooth the thick mixture into a 13x9 tray and leave for 20-30 minutes. Cut into 10 equal size bars. Individually wrap each bar (I use aluminum foil) and store in the fridge.

Nutrition Facts

Serving Size: 1 Bar

Be careful with your diet, check with the doc on everything.

rjanssen65, just so you'll know, BB1 turned me on to proteincustomizer.com. The protein supplements there are very reasonable. They can also be customized as the name implies. Where GNC and others are $9 to $12 per lb, this site offers the similar formulas for $6 to $9 approx. % lbs lasts over a month. They are very tasty too. I add oatmeal, eggwhites and a little splenda to my daytime formula and its a good meal. Just thought you may be interested.
