I found this info last night and thought I should post it as an interesting FYI, especially since we know that Ecstasy, and many other rec drugs, are extremely popular in the bodybuilding world. But this goes waaaaay beyond the typical physiological and psychological problems usually associated with most drug use:
“As a result of an initial investigation into Cocaine and Ecstasy as cancer-causing substances, further studies led a team of Italian scientists to conclude that these drugs may also provoke DNA mutations, actually attacking the body at a genetic level.
‘Cocaine and ecstasy have proved to be more dangerous than we had imagined,’ said Giorgio Bronzetti, chief scientist at the National Center for Research's (CNR) biotechnology department.
‘These drugs, on top of their toxicological effects, attack DNA provoking mutations and alter the hereditary material. This is very worrying for the effects it could have on future generations,’ he said.
The use of ecstasy, a drug popular at all-night dance parties, increased by 70 percent between 1995 and 2000 according to a United Nations published in September.
Ecstasy and amphetamines have overtaken cocaine and heroin as the fastest growing global narcotics menace, the study said.
The CNR report, which took more than three years to complete, said animal tests had shown a direct relationship between ecstasy and cocaine intake and the effects on DNA.
‘In other words, the longer the time frame of drug consumption, the greater the damage to DNA,’ Bronzetti said.”

Why are they popular in the bodybuilding world? Just curious.

Money plus lifestyle plus access... it's just that simple. And it's not like that just in bodybuilding. Almost every pro sport has the same issues.

Rev8...good post. This is an extremely dangerous drug, in any amount, and especially mixed with any other narcotic. I've had the unfortunate experience of interning in an in-patient drug rehabilitation clinic. I saw this stuff and what it could do first hand. It does go beyond the 'usual' effects of other narcs, in that it f's with your body's framework(DNA and the brain). Access to resources plus lifestyle sums it up...its a vicious cycle. Thank you for bringing this subject to light. My 2 cents is that no one is immune frome the effects of what this stuff can do, and it is available to all socioeconomic backrounds. whether you live in the ghetto or in a mansion, its everywhere.

Wow great post REV. If I may ad to that.
I went to an alzheimer confrence about 2 weeks ago. The speaker was Dr. Serge Gauthier a neurologidt here in montreal (the best in North America). He is a leader in reserch of the disease.
Anyway to get to the point, he said that ecstacy pills (each one consumed) takes 10 years off ones brain, and guaranteed to have A.D.
Jdelts your right on about the DNA and the brain.

Carivan, did you happen to see any "before and after pics" of people's brains using E after 6 months of regular use(1-5 times per week). The pics are similar to those of Alzheimers patient's brains after a couple of years. There are noticable holes in the structure of the brain. Scarey stuff.
