Recently, this topic has entered my head and i thought who better to turn to then you guys. My workout is working a muscle group once a week or every 8 or 9 days. However, when i do work that muscle, i do about 12-16 sets, using a variation of 4 or more exercises (meaning 4 sets per bar).
I noticed that the program many sites offer, have you do about 8 sets MAX a week. Am i doing too much? Would it be better for my muscles to cut down to 8?
Thanks for the help guys

What program are you doing? I would love to read about this one. I think its WAYYY too much especially if you are trying to add muscle.
Let me know what site I can read this at.

I think i mislead you fire, thanks for the input though. As of right now, i'm kind of on my own program, not technically following one someone has given me. To me, it seems only doing 8 sets for that muscle once a week is just very low, and wouldn't do much. Therefore i do about 12 or so..am i doing too much? Should i cut it down?
Thanks again

IMO i think you are doing wayyy too much, IF your goal is to build muscle. Hell, in fact I think you are doing wayy too much regardless of your goals lol.
I would try 2-3 sets of 3 different exercises for each muscle group for 1 week. I think that is what Max-OT training recommends, and they are all about building as much muscle as possible. You can take a look at their very informational site which also has alot of indepth research on why to do only so many sets and reps.
I just stumbled one day on to this program and whiile I havent tried it yet, I have read a TON about it and it makes very much sense to me.
When I used to strength train (only for a 3 month period of time), i was doing 2 exercises with 4 sets per exercise and i made AWESOME gains. But that worked for me.
Check out the MAX-OT training, it may work out good for you. The Long PDF file can be found here:
http--www.freedomfly.net-Documents-MAX-OT.pdf
Skim through it until you come across the sample routines. Hope this helps.

I suggest ONE MILLION sets... thats a pretty subjective question Winkin. You'll get different answers from different "muscle theorists", but Firehawk is right, go lower, but heavier.
