Hello everyone, its been awhile since i've posted. I've been working out with a trainer twice a week for the past while but not for the past couple weeks. My trainer helps to keep me motivated. But every workout by about half way through i feel dizzy and at the end nauseated. Yes i am eating enough and not too close to my workout. I am also sore for at least a week after one session as well. Recently we started working on strength, which i do want to get stronger but at what cost? Ever since that one workout ive been very ill and am just starting to feel better and i havent been able to workout since Nov 10. My Dr. put me on some meds and it seems to be helping. For my workout i do Full body three times a week plus cardio for 20-60 mins 3-5 days a week. What do you think? My Dr. wants me to cut back on the weights and split up my body to just upper and lower and do weights only twice a week and cardio 3 days. Ill give you an example of what kind of weights i was doing and for me this is big because ive never been very strong and i do have fibromialgia as well. My trainer had me doing 200 lbs on my legs for 6-8 reps and 3 sets. Thanks you for your input imlooking forward to hearing from you.

Hey sypress.

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling dizzy. How old are you?

My first thought would be that if your trainer knows you are feeling dizzy and continues to push you, get a new trainer. If you ever feel dizzy or nautious during a workout, stop working out or somethin bad is going to happen!

If i were you I would cut back on the cardio and do the weightlifting. There was an intersting article that I read somewhere which said that many many people have died from doing cardio, but the amount of people that die from weightlifting is nearly 0%. However, this stat is given for people with no underlying heart conditions. I am not sure what fibromialga is but i would definitely say to be careful with any training that you do. If you are feeling dizzy, take it easy.

By the way, the key to fat loss is really in the dieting. If you eat right with a caloric deficit, you will lose weight, even if you do light workouts. I think you should start at what you can handle that does NOT make you feel dizzy, and go slow from there. Your doctor seems to have the right idea. Again if that trainer is continuing to push you, GET A NEW TRAINER! Better to hurt the Trainer's feelings than to risk having a heart attack or some other major medical problem.

For a diet, you just said that you are "eating enough". How are you eating? What are you eating?

Try to eat small meals thorughout the day which are balanced meals. Eat once every 2-3 hours, 1 portion protein, 1 portion carb (one portion is the size of your closed fist). That is the "newbie" dieting rule. Once you get better you can count the grams of food that you eat and watch your caloric intake much closer. (4 calories/gram of protein, 4 calories/gram of carb, and 9 calories/gram of fat).

A good website that lays out how to eat like this is www.hussman.org. I would suggest for you to take a good look at that site. Hope this info helps you.

The diet is 90% of your fat loss solution.
Best of luck.

Firehawk thanks for your input. I am 29 and fibromialgia is a condition where your muscles eventually deteriorate and and are very sore and tender all the time (on the back) along with a lot of other sypmtoms. I've had it for a few years but so far so good i don think i have lost any muscle, thats why i want to work on building muscle and hopefully keeping it. I will probably look into getting a new trainer. Lately my diet hasnt been that great because of being ill i havent had an appetite. Othwer wise i usually have cereal and fruit or yogurt in the morning, after my workout i have a protien shake, for lunch a lean cusine sometimes with fruit or a salad, and supper sometimes a stirfry with brown or wild rice. I have quite a bit of weight to lose around 50 lbs at least, believe me i love weight training but not when it makes you feel like this, i hate cardio but try to do it. Thank you for the website i will have to check it out.

I hate cardio too but it is very importnat to do. I would just say only do what doesnt make you feel nautious or dizzy. Then slowly increase from there. You have to take it easy alot more than anyone else because of that condition im sure.

Just dont push it too much and stay safe ;)

I used to get dizzy alot sypress, especially on legs day. I guess two things solved my problem; one was gradually getting into shape, and the other was eating a protein/carb mixed meal roughly 1 hour before gym visit.

Specifically, I mix about 40g of protein powder (whey) into 8 oz. of milk (which is another 9g or so of protein) or I may down a nutrition bar that's loaded with protein and has some carbs too.

I don't know how long it is after you eat that your working out, but you should have something about one hour before working out, and take longer breaks on sets on heavy days if you are getting dizzy. I literally used to have to take a knee after leg presses.

And don't worry about the 50 lbs., that'll fall if you're determined. Since July 2002, I've dropped 70 lbs and picked back up 8, and stabilized at 190 (252, dropped to 182, climbed back up as high as 197 but levelled off at 190).

good luck to you!
