IF you are trying to build muscle, doing any sets to failure is probably not what you want. How much rest do you take in between sets? It better be long rests if you are doing every set to failure!

A good muscle building site is www.ast-ss.com BUT, DO NOT GET CAUGHT UP IN STEROIDS! You are way too young for that and if you do, ill find you and knock you out for it!

www.ast-ss.com is a great site for muscle mass building and for all kinds of good research. Check it out.

The fact that he is too young has nothing to do with not taking steroids...they're terrible at any age! If he is under the supervision of his coaching staff, they may be telling him to burnout for endurance(not the best way to build muscle, but it will up your endurance... something very important for football players). tweener, fill out your profile and tell us what your training goals are, otherwise we're just pissing in the wind trying to figure out what may be beneficial for you.

LOL jdelts i wasnt implying at an older age it was ok , but at his age (YOU KNOW, THE VERY CURIOUS ALL GIRLS ALL THE TIME "I GOTTA LOOK GOOD" AGE) i was scaring him heheh.

I dont know man. After reading what ive read, im against burnouts completely at the expense of muscle, but thats just one guy's opinion. Many many people make it big in many many ways.

O.K. so if doing sets to failure doesn't build muscle then what are sets to failure good for?? I believe you Firehawk734 because jdelts would have definately corrected you if you were mistaken, but this info. has kind of thrown me off. My trainer told me that doing sets to failure does build muscle. He said sets to faiure basically tears the muscle so it has to rebuild itself thus being bigger. Granted my biceps are bigger but if I can get them bigger without torturing them I'll do that instead. I am not trying to hurt my body I am trying to make it better. Sooo....if doing sets to failure doesn't build any muscle then what are sets to failure good for??

Jdelts posted ahead of me up there about burnouts building endurance. It does build endurance (just look at runners etc) but also they rae not very bulky, they are just very slender and their muscles are built for endurance. You may get a little muscle gain but not what you want if you are trying to significantly add muscle.

When you feel that "BURN" in your muscles, that is nothing more than lactate built up in your muscles. Because your muscle is "burning" does not mean you are tearing the muscle fibers necessarily.

Again from what I have read about doing burnouts, this creates glycogen store depletion in your muscles (meaning your muscles lose some of their ability to recover quickly) and hinder muscle growth.

The way to build muscle the best (IMO) is to create alot of overload in them. This is done with low rep higher weight.

Jdelts can back me up on this.

When i work out, I dont even feeel the burn anymore, and that is because I have developed enough resistance to that lactate buildup. Yet I am still making gains in weight and adding muscle to my body. I am doing the Body For Life training www.bodyforlife.com.

I don't like burnouts either, but they are good for one thing...making you tired.lol I gotta break out my old physiology books. The burning is that pesky lactic acid, in other words, goodbye bulk.
