I read just today that it takes twice as many calories to process protein in your body as it does carbs. Not sure exactly how this affects your metabolism, except that you're burning more calories.

I find that protein does not raise my metabolism, in fact when I am doing high protein I get cranky and tired but good carbs seem to take care of that. Thank goodness for oatmeal.

Exercise and diet raise metabloism. Protein adds muscle if training correctly. In turn, muscle stokes the metabolism and burns more fat than the average person even at rest.

Eating several small meals during the day helps keeping your metabolism active as well.
