I have been working on the treadmill, taken up martial arts and lifted weights for the last 9 months and I quickly lost about 27 pounds. I went from 216 to 189 but have been unable to get rid of the spare tire around my gut. Has anyone figured out a real life solution to this problem or am I stuck with what my genes have given me?

Well the men struggle with the abs and women with the thighs...... Life is cruel! (o;
First of all congrats with your weight loss, you've done a great job already so I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to reach your final goal.
It's always the last fat which is the most difficult to loose. Take a look in the competition forum and read some of bb1's great posts. He's explaining how and when.
Good luck!

It can be done I for the longest time have had the same problem. You must yes I said must MICROMANAGE your diet and exercise routine. Geneticaly Most of my weight is carried in my "sparetire" but and thighs. Due to alot of hard work and super clean diet I can see more cuts in my thight than ever which is pretty good considering my thights are almost 28 inches around and now I can't even get a caliper on them anywhere. As for the spare tire its not completely gone but I can actually see my obliques actual muscle so don't give up I am proof it can be done. You get out what you put in. Good luck
