My FT nutrition profile says that I'm to eat 500g of carbs a day. This seems EXTREEMLY excessive, especially considering that I'm trying to lose weight and I'm a slow loser. 6'1, 200lbs 18 years old. What would be an appropriate #?

Yes, this is probably true. But, don't look too much at carbs as the enemy, they are needed. Just if you are trying to lose, that is too high an amount, for undoubtedly alot of them will be "bad carbs". For losing, I usually advocate a 50/20/30 p/c/f ratio. This a tried and proven ratio. You can always adjust as you go, in fact you should, but this is a good starting place.

A set formula is used in most calorie compositions on computers, and it is hard to be correct for everyone. There are so many factors involved, and sometimes these need to be tweaked to fit the individual.

Please fill in your profile so we can help you more. And welcome to FT.
