I have just stopped losing and have decided to try the South Beach Diet. It seems "fairly" good (no "simple" carbs for the first 2 weeks) BUT on the days that I weight train I know I need carbs. I bought some 100% Whole Wheat bread and was wondering if I eat a Natural Peanut Butter sandwich on the Whole Wheat Bread would that be enough carbs for my workout?

I hope someone else answers this, but I know that in trying to lose weight adding bread and peanut butter wouldn't work for me.

why not go with a complex carb source to get your required carbs for your workout?

Deby, go with any fruits veggies (I like sweet potatoes)
Complex Carbs & Weight Loss
Calories in a balanced diet should consist of about 50 per cent complex carbs. Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. Complex carbs or starches are found in grains, fruits and vegetables and take the body longer to digest than simple carbs. Simple carbs, known as sugars, are found typically in processed foods like candy, cakes, cookies and regular soft drinks.

The body needs carbs to function correctly so be careful if choosing a low carb weight loss diet. If your carb intake is too low, it may result in lack of energy/concentration and lack of nutrients.

Actually I almost "sweet potatoed" myself out!!! I ate them everyday for about 3 weeks. I know what the complex carbs and simple carbs are, but just don't have a desire to eat sweet potatoes and legumes all of the time. What else is there! I know I need the energy, I am working out very hard (leg presses last night were 45 reps of 180 lbs and I am 55 years old!), but my energy was really bad last night. I pushed myself, but my trainer could see the difference; he even took my pulse at one time.

What about oatmeal? Whole wheat pasta? The whole wheat bread is good, I just couldn't eat the peanutbutter, but lots of peeps here do.

I don't have a problem with the Natural Peanut butter at all. I have never tried Whole Wheat Pasta, but I will need something tonight since I am training. Maybe I will do the Oatmeal, I have plenty of that at home. Thanks everyone.

People!!!!!!!!! Deby, Dont consider pb and or sweet potatoes as a major part of your fat loss diet. Low fat low sugars, includung complex carbs, and the rest lean proteins. Plenty of water. Not to mention 30-60 min. 5 times a week of cardio. BALANCED, SMALL PORTIONED MEALS, NON PROCESSED FOODS, EXERCISE. Thats all. You cannot eat sweet potatoes everyday and expect to lose weight. And for any of you "wannabees" that disagree, just shut your stupid little pie holes up. HeeHeee

I'm afraid that there are many here that will disagree with this statement: "You cannot eat sweet potatoes everyday and expect to lose weight." There are many veteran weightlifters and bodybuilders here that will testify that both sweet potatoes and natural peanut butter are 'good foods' to have in a high protein, lowfat eating plan that includes plenty of good fibrous complex carbs.

As for your other comment: "And for any of you "wannabees" that disagree, just shut your stupid little pie holes up." ....Be Nice!.

Ok...reddd's comments aside here...
I'm really happy that Victoria used the word "peeps". Fantastic.

Deby, if you have been eating the same stuff for so long, maybe it's time to mix it up a little? Jolt your diet by moving foods to different times, different combinations...didn't you say you were meeting with your trainer soon to work out a new diet plan?

Yes, Kirby, since I cannot train tomorrow night because I am giving blood at 1:30 tomorrow, I will go over the new diet setup he is doing for me. I talked to him about Natural Peanut Butter and he said no problem with that. I no I can eat sweet potatoes everyday, but don't want to do that. I hope he changes me up a lot, because I have been eating just about the same thing everyday!
