Hey! I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Get Motivated Seminar here yesterday and thought everyone could benefit from some of the speakers' key points.
I also thought it was really awesome that the first speaker was a doctor who's point was that you aren't truly successful if you don't have optimal health. His name is Earl Mindell. here are his Six Core Principles for Optimal Health (don't be suprised if this sounds a little familiar to many of you, it is what a lot of people here stress in the message boards everyday).

1) Drink 6-10 glasses of Clean water Daily.2/3s of the human body is water, yet it is the most neglected nutrient.

2) Get Back to Basics and Rediscover Delicious Whole Foods. The rise in chronic degenerative diseases like heart disease and diabetes correlates with the rise in comsumption of foods that have all the nutrients stripped out of them and harmful preservatives and additives put in.
a) go for Whole grains and legumes
b) fresh vegetables and fruits
c) healthy oils (olive oil)
d) meats, poultry, and other protein foods
(choose lean, fresh)
e)nuts and seeds
f) fermented dairy products (yogurt)
g) become label reader
(avoid hydrogenated oils, transfatty
acids, chemicals)

3) Add Movement to Your Life.

4) Maintain a Healthy Weight. Some key things to remember:
a)Lose the fat, but not the good fat.
b)Make your carbs complex.
c) Sugar is fat too.
d) Double the fiber and absorb fewer fats.

5) get Acquainted with Natural Healing remedies. There are so many side effects from synthetic drugs. Find simple, natural remedies when you do feel il, but if you follow the six basic principles you will be sick a lot less often.

6) Get on a Multi-vitamin and Mineral plan. If your multi doesn't contain 1,000mg of vit C, twice daily, 400 IU of vit E and a formula of 600mg Calcium and 300 mg magnesium you should add them seperatley to your daily vitamin intake.

"Optimal health is like driving a finely tuned automobile instead of an old clunker. either one might be able to get you from place to place, but what a difference in the drive!"

The next speaker was one of my favorite motivational speakers (and the reason I attended) Zig Ziglar. If you have never heard him - seek out his tapes, any of them, the local library here has some, he is phenominal.

Ziglar reminds us that you need to have good relationships in life, to cherish your loved ones, to meet everyone as if they are a long lost friend, and that everything you do in life is some form of salesmanship. If you give people what they want you will get what you need.
" Motivation gets you going, but habit gets you there. Make motivation a habit and you'll get there more quickly and have a lot more fun on the trip." " You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind."
Action- Continually feed your mind with good, clean, pure, positive thoughts and your motivation will grow and become a habit.
1) Become an avid reader.
2) Enroll in Automobile University. Listen to motivational or instructional tapes in the car to and from work, on errands, etc. You can learn a new language, become more motivated, become a better person/spouse/parent/employer/employee. Experiments done by Dr Forest Tennant (a leading drug authority in the country) discovered that listening to inspirational recordings actually activates the flow of over 200 neurotransmitters 9dopamine, norepenephrine, serotonin, endorphins, etc.) which physiologically energizes you, you arrive at your destination with more energy and focus!

This just keeps growing, I thought I better post that portion before I got kicked off by accident.

Okay, there wer a lot of great speakers, I can't say enough how powerful the day was. I came out feeling a lot more like I can control my future and create personal wealth (physically and emotionally).
One other thing Zig Ziglar stressed is that you rarely will improve your quilaity if life by trying to improve your standard of living, but you will always improve your standard of living by focusing on the quality of your life.

there were a lot of business types who presented info on how to create financial abundance, but they all had in common the idea that you help people get what they want and you will get what you need in return.

Okay, the other speaker that I thought was amazing was rudy Giuliani. He started writing his book on Effective leadership during times of crisis when he found out he had prostate cancer, then 9/11 occurred and he realized that any crisis, big or small (it is all relative) needed to be dealt with in the same manner. here are his Six Keys To Effective Leadership:
1) You must know what you believe. stand by your beliefs, religious, political, and social. If you don't know why you are doing what you are doing, when it is time to take a stand, you will falter.

2) You must be an optimist. You have the choice, you can be an optimist or a pessimist, it's a lot more fun to be an optimist! "I am alive, you're alive and we have another day!"

3) You must have courage. Lack of fear is not courage, that is insanity. Courage is facing the fear you have and overcoming your emotions so that you can deal with the situation at hand. (He told an amazing and heart-rending story about a firefighter at ground zero, who was supposed to have been off-duty because of an injury, but nevertheless went to ground zero, carried two groups of people out of the burning buildings and then went back in for more whenthe building collapsed and he was killed.)

4) You must practice relentless preparation. Be prepared for every eventuality. You must continue to study, acquire skills, attain knowledge and plan for every situation that might arise.

5) You must have a great team. Surround yourself with people that balance out your areas that you may lack knowledge or skills in. You must demonstrate ultimate humility and admit to your areas of weakness.

6) You must communicate effectively.
Our power to communicate determines the level of our influence. You may possess tremendous talent and motivation, but without the ability to communicate effectively, your ability to lead will be limited.

Well, I hope this is all useful to everyone.
One more key thing someone said was
"God doesn't make junk. Don't ever let anyone make you feel that you aren't as good as anyone else. You have unlimited potential."

Sounds like you had a powerful day and thanks for sharing.

I found Zig Ziglar tapes and cds at Barnes and Noble, I bet you could find them at amazon.com, or even in an online search. I think any motivational speaker is good for everyone, because the basic messages and principles really apply to every situation.
If you want a really good inspirational book for lifting - check out Dave Draper's Brother iron, Sister Steel, which I also found at Barnes and Noble, the Blond Bomber is a little out there, but it really got me going.

I actually saw that seminar last summer. It was great. I have a bit of a problem, however with the "sugar is fat too" part. It should say that too much sugar is as bad as too much fat. I guess that we fitness people get a little uptight about nutritional errors. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did.

HEy everyone! Happy New Year! I am bumping this post because I am seeing so many posts about how to stay motivated!

Once you know what you want and focus on that goal every morning - you will find the motivation and fortitude you need!
