Hey guys. Yesterday I went to the gym and tried playing basketball after my workout. I quickly ran out of breath and couldn't really play. Last week I was fine and played basketball for a couple hours. Today, I've been having breathing problems even after playing. I would go to the doctor's but my service isn't very good, stupid Kaiser. On a side note when I got a blood test, they had to poke me in three different palces with a needle to finally be able to draw blood. I was thinking it was possibly due to my rib cage muscles having some adverse affect on my lungs. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to kind of help or correct this? Thanks.

Well, the only thing that i could think of is maybe because you just had some drawn, that your can't carry as much oxygen and therefore you run out of breath faster. The best thing I would suggest is get a lot of rest to help with the replentishment of your . That is the only thing I can think of if you didn't have breathing problems before you had the drawn.

mtlong, sorry my post was confusing, but I didn't just get my blood taken before playing basketball. I was trying to say I hate Kaiser and don't want to go to the doctor for tests. azredhead, yes I do stay properly hydrated. My breathing has gotten a little better over the past couple of days. A few days ago when I wasn't even doing anything, I would have trouble breathing through my nose. I'd feel out of breath and have to leave my mouth open to breathe. Today, I can breathe through my nose alright.

You might want to get checked out... you might have asthma or have an accute state of it. If your having trouble breathing, you don't want to let that go. I would definently go to a doctor.

You could have developed exercise-induced asthma. Get checked out, by a doctor that knows asthma. I was misdiagnosed as having chronic bronchitis my whole life until I ended up in the right emergency room during an episode and the doctor examining me asked 'how long have you had asthma?' Well, golly, probably my whole life, but it has been treated as bronchitis til now!
Anyhow, the fitter I get the less it bothers me, I only need my inhaler during allergy season and before I go running. Asthma and exercise-induced asthma are very common nowdays (pollution?).
If you have a similar episode try drinking a cup of hot cofee - the heat and some of the compounds in the coffeee will help act as bronchodilators.
If that works for you, you might be okay not getting an inhaler, but you really don't want to wake up in the middle of the night unable to take in oxygen, that is terrifying and emergency room trips are much more expensive than going to the doctor and getting checked out.
Good luck, take care of yourself.
