I was wondering if you could clear this up for me. I am confused as to whether I should be eating lower carbs or higher. My nutritional layout as provided here says I should be eating at least 300g of carbs a day. I am following the toning and weight loss program intermediate level for now with plans to get into sculpting later. I have been reading articles in top rated magazines and they all state keep carbs low . The carbs I eat are mostly fruits , vegetables grains I follow my amounts very closely and very clean. Thank you for any clarification anyone can offer on this.

all diets work to some degree.

The reality is no diet or approach to nutrition is going to change the laws of physics. So, if we eat it, and do not exert it(expend it), it will be stored as fat. There is no way around this for any diet to be effective there must be a calorie deficit.

We have had the low fat diet, high carb diet, etc.

Clearly, the low more low carb approach works. It stabilizes insulin and allows the production of glucagon. Carbs are noted as "muscle sparing", but are they not also "fat sparing"? Maybe that is why such an inordinate amount of cardio goes with the higher carb diets? Think back, when BB's were using lower carb diets, they did just fine. Do you remember gyms filled with tons of cardio equipment in the tens of thousands of dollars?

The lower carb higher protein approach actually allows the individual to feel full longer. It also enables you to eat 10-20% more calories due to the thermic effect of food.

Also in this case, cardio can be kept to a minimum, which we all know is detrimental to muscle tone, and less likely to overtrain, which will also do the same.

This may be more than what you asked for, but my take on things and what I think works and is the most healthy. You can stay leaner and gain some tissue at the same time. A couple carb loading meals per week to keep metabolism honest and some glycogen stores replenished will suffice.
