white bread is not a good source of carbo's and is not recomened in a good diet. brown bread is much better for you. I was wondering why?? I assume it is becasuse they bleach the flour?? is this correct or am i way off target??

You are right on the bleached flour. They take all the nutrients out of it, then they put in some vitamins and minerals and then call it "Enriched".
The reason why brown or even grain bread is a better source of a carbohydrate, is because it is loaded with all the vitamins and minerals in it's natural form, and if you go one step further to grain bread, even better. The whole wheat bread and grain bread will have more fiber, and take longer to digest and get into your bloodstream.
Try and stay away from anything that is white, like rice, sugar, potato.
Hope this helps.

White bread is a 100 on the glycemic index scale!

Be careful of "whole wheat" breads in grocery stores. By law, only 40% of the grain has to be whole wheat to call it that. Look for the first ingredient to be something other than "enriched" something or other.

I just talked to a friend of mine who recently made a trip to India and came back with an Eastern philosophy he's been following. The philosophy warns against eating the "5 white devils," which includes white bread, white rice, white potatoes, white flour, and white sugar. I'm usually not much for spiritual philosophies that advocate a certain diet, but I gotta admit that this one sounds pretty on point
