Hey everyone. I have a quick question, and was hoping that you could help me with this. I am soon to be a new parent. My wife and I are expecting a girl. I was wondering, what is the right age for me to start teaching my daughter to exercise? I know that I need to teach her healthy eating habits from the moment she can eat solid foods, but I'm not sure when her muscles will be ready to start running, and weight training. Any info you can give would be a big help. Thanks.

Her first toy instead of a rattle should be a little barbell!! LOL...I really don't know the answer to that, but congratulations to you and your wife! I would suggest doing a search on the internet. I am sure you will find hundreds of articles by many experienced physicians and such. Best of luck to you.

first thing your doing wrong is calling it fitness. to a child it should be called play time ,my quess is as soon as your child can crawl and walk is when you introduce play time to your child.....anything that has your child moving is good for her......when she is crawling put something at the other end of the room and race with her(of course you have to let her win)and do it over again...this will be a game to her and a good small workout...when she learns to walk have her kick balls, run, jump ,,,there are many things ,,,as long as you are active with your child your child will be active with you........ good luck and enjoy remember that saying daddies little girl ....that's true....... ;-D

I have already started bugging my wife about teaching her to play racquetball (the sport of kings). I could just feel her giving me the evil eye, over the internet, when I mentioned it. I want to start my daughter early, so that I can watch her crush her opponents with no mercy, even if it is me.

, cool, but keep in mind don't dream your dreams in your childrens eyes....there are many children who hate their parents for putting them in a sport that they really don't care for but do it because it makes their parents happy....

Congrats on the new addition.
Rember that every movement an infant does, requires a muscle to do it. The only way you can help your child to develop good muscles is not to always be holding her.
Holding her all the time will not permit her to use the muscles needed to pull and push her self around. Eventually she will be pulling her own weight up on to a couch or bed. Even some adults have trouble pulling their own weight up. Hope you have fun in the courts with her.

You can walk to anywhere you want, it only takes time.

I will remember. If she shows no interest, I won't pursue it. I will let her make up her own mind, thanks padua. I will remember, also, what carivan is saying. However, I need to help my wife in that department. I'll do what I can. Thanks to everyone for all of the great responses.
