when there are lifters in the gym...that snicker because they think they can lift more than you because they are doing lower reps...and when you get fed up with it you ask them what they think is so funny and they say that as big as you are your a pussy....well i just laugh and say to them....275 on the bar for a 22 year old pretty good...I challenge him and defeat him in an all out 275xfailure contest....whose laughing now...he doesnt laugh any more...i hate doing higher reps it makes me look like a pussy...but I love how they make me bigger and more defined. but i really hate the people who think they're the sh*t. I say "put your money where your bench aint buddy."

I like that last line.

You're right. Generally speaking, the guys that move the pounds are the last ones to boast it. It's always the wanna-be's that have the issues - I guess a "Napoleon Complex" with weights. Most strong persons don't need to prove anything to anyone else, just themselves. There's a different code amongst weightlifters vs. bodybuilders, and that's why I prefer their company (of course, nothing negative meant towards body builders).

It reminds me of a phrase I once heard a world champion powerlifter mumble: "Talk is cheap; prove it on the platform."

I'm glad I've never heard anyone at our gym criticize or make fun of anyone else. I don't think I would have stayed with it it I had. That is just plain rude if you ask me.

Ya, I'm not sure if this "macho" guy behavior is inherant in the male psyche from birth or if it's a learned behavior. Either way, it just seems quite silly, childish, and not productive in the least.

I could handle a criticism from another weight lifter (and would be glad if I was lifting improperly and they corrected me to prevent an injury) but that is quite different than snickering.

The "bigger" man really has nothing to prove.
