Anyone here experience a depletion in drive? Man, that's where I am right now. What gets you people motivated? When this happens to me I usually quit and take it up again after a few years--don't want to do that this time. This occurs often after a week-long+ layoff and having other things on my mind.

I went to work out yesterday and did 3 sets of chest and 3 sets of shoulders and petered out in the enthusiasm department. I normally do advanced routines, each body part once a week with plenty of rest and food, so I'm definitely not overtraining. Any ideas on getting reinvigorated? What gets you people really focused on bodybuilding? God I don't want to lose these gains. Thanks.

Storm, RW is exactly right about having it taken away. I had rotator cuff surgery 2 weeks ago. The Doc and therapists oked me for leg machine and certain ab workouts and I am doing it the best I can. The painkillers make me nausious and queasy and its real hard to gut it through a workout. I have 4 more weeks until I can lift my right arm without help. An 80 year old lady was on the therapy bed next to me the other day doing front lateral raises with a broom stick. I told her I'd kill to be able to do that. I can't wait to have my workout fate in my own hands again.

Look through the message boards - there are a lot of posts on motivation.

When was the last time you changed your routine? Trying something new or doing it in a different order always helps me feel 'gung-ho' again. Good luck stormcrow.

Thanks all! Yeah, it's not that I CAN'T do it--I guess it's thinking about all the things I COULD be doing at 5 am instead. Need to put that out of my mind. True, I need to change things up. Raven, considered a chiropractor? I laughed at the idea until I threw my back out doing low rows and went and saw one. I could barely get out of bed. Two days later I was doing low rows again. Again, thanks for the motivation guys.

when you feel unispired and lost motivationb, good idea is do something diferent - different type of phys. activity like play soccer, running, swim etc. Sooner or later, you find new motivation - maybe try change training plan ...

On a somewhat lighter side, I was on vacation, easing into a sloth-like state on a lounge chair when I observed a group of men at the far end of the pool. A pack of sunning walruses was the image that came to my mind.

Up off the lounge chair, into the pool, 20 laps. Though the thought of joining the tubbies at the far end with a beer was tempting.

Hehe, yeah, "sloth-like state" really describes the feeling after a week or more off the weights. Starting to get the motivation back. A few things that have helped: 1) not wanting my wife to be married to a tub of flaccid lard, 2) thinking back to looking casually in the mirror and thinking "damn, I make that pullover look good." 3) Just feeling strong and being able to carry stuff with little effort. 4) Pulling out the Disturbed CDs. They are my "in case of fatigue break glass" group--they ALWAYS work. Thanks again all!
