I need to burn off some excess fat around my midsection in order to showcase my abs. I've done some moderate abwork, and I am starting this site's 12 week ab routine. In addition to that, I would like to bulk up to about 200 lbs. (no more than 210 lbs.) of muscle (I'm currently about 190), but haven't been able to do so, probably because of my confusion over diets. So my questions are:
1.) Can I bulk up and simultaneously burn the excess fat around my waist so that I can display my abs? If so, what kind of timetable am I looking at?
2.) I know in order to build muscle, one must eat the proper amount of calories. However, in order to burn fat, one must cut out carbs. I already eat healthy carbs (whole wheat, oatmeal, fruit, non fat plain yogurt and skim milk) and maintain a low fat, high protein diet, but should I cut out the carbs and just eat protein for a few weeks? I know that's hard to do, but I don't have too much fat to burn, so I doubt it would take too long.
3.)I'm very confused over whether or not fruit is good for fat-burning goals or not.

1) No...bulking requires a large amount of calories, a surplus if you will, and this is counterproductive to having abs.
2)Carbs are not the enemy. You need carbs for too many processes in the body. Low carb diets are the "fad" now, like low fat high carb diets were not long ago. Low carb diets are a tool that can be used for short periods of time like we do getting ready for contests(bodybuilders). It is the type of carbs and timing of carbs that is much more essential.
3)Fruit usually does not go well with a fat burning diet. Though very healthy, too much fructose, which tops off liver glycogen, can spill over very easily and be stored as fat.
-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. You are limited only by your mental perception of it.

Thanks, I think I get it now. So, if I eat healthy carbs (no white bread etc.) and maintain a high protein, low fat diet, while weightlifting, I'm sure I can bulk up some. However, and I apologize if this is repetitive, if I continue to do ab work, will the increase in muscle gain burn off the excess fat around my abs, seeing that there's not too much to burn. How do people bulk up and develop visible 6-packs without gaining much, if any, fat. I mean, I see this accomplished all the time.
