hey pepz, im 17 rite now and going to be a senior in high school. im pretty out of shape: 190 lbs, 41 inch waist, 5 foot 7 inches tall. it seems lyk theres no hope for me but im gonna try anyways. 1) Ive already programmed into freetrainer a prog that outlines an exercise routine for 8 weeks five days a week (i have gym membership so chose weights/machine for options). 2) I also checked my water intake and read somewhere to double it. So i will double the suggested intake of water and NO food after 7 PM. 3)i checked also filled out the freetrainers nutritional guide to weight loss.
Here are my Qs now.
1)Based on my stats i told u (height, weight, waist, age), do i have a chance at weight loss (im not concerned about looking great, juss NORMAL, no need to be cut or buff)?
2) Is the water intake a good idea? Double the suggested amount from freetrainers? How about NO food after 7PM?
3) i seem to have trouble exercising in the morning because of rides/stuff...will it be ok if i exercise at night most of time at the gym?
4)are there any ideas on how to manage my food protein/fat/calories/etc (do i juss write down the foods and keep adding the stats...wut if theyre like strawberries)? ANY suggestions?
5) does the program really work? I realize the answer is YES...but id like to know how effective and stuff.
6) when should i start checking for results on the scale? in the mirror?
7)It says that you should run with the 8week prog im in at freetrainers. How long and how fast (in terms of the running machine..word escapes me for moment)?
8) Any last suggestions?
Thanks to all the pepz who read this and reply...

1-3 YES!!!
4 - eat six meals a day, consisting of some lean protein, about 6 oz based on your weight, 1-2 cups vegetables or 1 cup fruit and some carbs like rice (1 cup) or pasta (1 cup) or beans (1/2 cup) a small sweet potato.

5 - any progarm that you stick with and follow thorugh with will work when you are a beginner, just don't overexert and pay attention to form. Use enough weight to challeneg your muscles, get enough sleep, drink lots of water and eat sensibly.
6 - look in the mirror for changes every two or three weeks (sometimes it takes longer when you first start) Ignore the sclae. Muscle weighs more than fat and your fluid levels change when you workout, too. Go by how your clothes fit.
7 - do what you can at your current fitness level and still be able to breath, start with wallking, then jog a little, then run a little, then walk to recover and repeat the cycle until you have done 15 - 20 minutes. Gradually increase the time you jog/run each week. You will know you are doing too much if your shins hurt, back off and walk a little more. The elliptical is good for running motion without the hard impact, start with 15 - 20 minutes at a level that makes you sweat, but you need to be able to breath!
8 - have faith. It didn't take a week to get out of shape, it will take more than a week to get into shape. Enjoy the process and realize you are getting healthier, not just losing fat.
Good Luck!

Needtotrim,
You definately have hope. My best friend was about 310, 6'2" in Feb. I coached him at the gym and at home, and after a lot of hard work and lifestyle changes he is now 245, which actually does not give him justice to how much better he looks...and feels. He has gained a lot of muscle in the process, so I would say he probably lost closer to 75 lbs of fat.
First, there is no big secret when your first starting out. You need to be dedicated, set a goal, and work your ass off. you need to decide NOW if this is something worth altering your current lifestyle (it is, believe me). Then you just need to bust ass and get to it. DEDICATION...dont take a day off cause your tired, set a program, and follow it to a tee. After about 3 weeks of forming a habit, If you take a day off or miss a day, you will feel so horible that you just wont do it. Its an addiction, so start it up.
Eat clean...change your life. Look through these forums for advice on what to eat. This, I think, is the hardest part, and deserves the most dedication. Stick to it. Make yourself. You can do it.
As far as tracking your progression. Take a before picture, hang it on your mirror. Whenever you feel like your getting nowhere, look at the picture, then you current self...you will see the results of hard work.
Sorry if this is a long post, but it is so awesome when someone decides to change their life for the better, im excited for you. Im only 20, but Ive seem it done. The only reason you wont be able to do it is YOU, it is all up to you and you alone, others may help, but it is your descision. GOOD LUCK BRO

I am only an inch and a half taller than you but I weighed 20 pounds more with an even bigger waist than yours. Now I've lost over 35 pounds and put on alot of muscle. It can be done, you just have to want it. Good luck and don't get discouraged. It won't happen overnight but it will happen if you stick with it.
