In my opinion...it is their opinion. I started in ninth grade and wish I had started in 6th. I love to lift, age doesn't really hold a factor...Just make sure you know what you are doing and dont start out with heavy weights work your way up to them. Have an adult first show you how to lift correctly...form dictates function.

I started when I was 14 because of football. You'll never regret that you started lifting. Most of the time you regret not starting sooner (like in the above post). Go for it!!!

I wish I had started years ago. Im 17 now and just now started. Within the past week.

Yeah, so im 19 and in college and im just now starting working out (while being premed). Answer: a good two years after the intial onset of puberty is the best time to get started...any time after that is prime time, its just up to you to get on the ball...you will never regret working out. You will only regret quitting.

I was born then the doctor put a dumbell in my hand and it was history from there. There some myths that weight training can stunt growth for a young person...there is no proof of this being true. I wouldn't suggest to a 12 or 13 year old to train heavy because you don't want chronic injury at that age because you'll have difficulty all your life with it. The key is to build a strong base gradually through the years if you want to go heavy. I started at 14 and worked my way up through the years....no problems here!

Thats sick halfpint!! Oh, you wrote 'mentor'. No, I stopped givivg advice to people because they never utilized it. When I would tell young guys that it takes hard work and years of training to get to where they want, they just give up and by some scmuck's advice to go on Adkins and find a quick way out. I have one guy I've been training in my gym and he has made some extraordinary gains in the last couple of months.

Age does not matter, it goes by how physically mature you are, which is different for everyone at certain ages. If your past the fifth stage of puberty which is like hair under your arms you can lift heavy and over your body weight. If your not in the 5th stage you can but light weights and make sure its under your body weight

i think @ least 13.otherwise you can significantly stunt your growth.:dumbbell:
