I just filled out the nutrition thing for the program and I am 245 pounds and 26 years old. and pregnant, BUT I took pregnant off to see what would happen and it was still the same! It told me to have over 3,000 calories! has anyone else got higher calories than what they thought was right?

Well yes and no. It told me that I need around 2800 calories -which is true to maintain my weight (I'm 5'11'', 152lbs and very active) BUT it also said 2800 cal when I put in weight loss as a goal, so.........
Don't count too much on it.

I got way too high too!! I NEED to lose weight and it said something like 2700 calories, I am only 5'5" tall and, now weigh, 196 pounds. WAY TOO HIGH!!!!! Even with my weight lifting and cardio.

I think it is pretty close for maintenance, after that we are on our own to figure it out. For weight loss, subtract at least 500 from it. Mine was 2700, but since I had only been eating 1500 max, even 2200 was a big increase so I try to stay just under 2000. Most of us find out we haven't been eating enough to fuel our muscle gains when we first get on here so we have to eat a little more at first to let our bodies know we are not trying to starve them. Once that is established we can play with the calories a little if we need to.

I am staying around 1800 per day and that has let me finally start losing some weight. All I was doing was gaining, gaining, gaining, mostly muscle BUT!!! Now I am losing weight and still gaining muscle.

Um, tara I think you better stay with 1300. You are already so tiny you would disappear if you did that. You must not have as much body fat to lose as the rest of us. Like they say...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

well probably not as much, but i'd like to get around 10% or so. But if I don't, oh well... I ain't eating no 800 calories a day--I starve the way it is!

My ft guideline is 1495 a day, I'm almost 5'2", 112 or so. I don't have a lot of body fat to lose but I'm on the progressive gains program which should result in slow changes in body composition. So far I follow the calorie allowance pretty closely, I don't feel hungry, do all my ft workouts plus running and HIIT on the treadmill a few times a week and I'm getting exactly what I expected, no drop in weight at all but more strength and definition. I am very pleased. I even take a fat supplement, 3grams of EFAs a day in fish oil, which averages out to an extra 12 grams dietary fats a day which I take above my ft calorie allowance; doesn't seem to have hurt me at all. Like I said, the ft guidelines have been great for me, being in a maintanence/progressive gains mode right now I refuse to be hungry; I need a maintenance program I can live with w/out being hungry all the time and this works for me.

well the way i do it is first you take the weight that you want to be at and multiply it by 10 ex.my ideal weight is 120*10= 1200 caleries daily///you want to be 150 multiply by 10 get 1500 caleries....but do it in a healthy way....

no way can i stick to 1000 cals! i do enough activity and weight lifting that i can eat more than that and still lose fat. there are many things to consider ... expirimenting is the only thing that works for me.
last month i lost 1% body fat -- woo hoo! so I think I better stick to my 13-1400.

Using that system even at my current weight would put me under 1200 calories a day. There's more to eating than just getting full; you also need to get all the protein and nutrients you need, those are best gotten from real food, not supplements and it's virtually impossible to get a full compliment of nutrients at under 1200 cals a day.

Anyway, if it works for you Padua, that's great; we all have to find what works for us - just be careful, you don't want to lose lean mass along with the fat - or worse, bone density which is always a risk when your calories drop too low. Take care!

Sorry Pad, really wasn't trying to jump you - it sounds like you're on top of things and your plan works for you, just a plan that low in calories always sets off alarm bells w/ me - there are so many inferior plans out there. Good luck to you, and welcome to the forum, this is a great place!

I know you've already posted your question here, but why don't you start a new post and give more info about what your diet is like now and what kind of exercise you are doing or want to do. I don't know what a bariatric diet is, so maybe explain it.
